Book Overview

Hilda is a little girl who has an uncanny ability to befriend even the most peculiar of house guests, but when an army of 'Hidden Elves' bombard her living room in the dead of the night with stones and forced eviction notices, she has to think twice before making these new creatures' acquaintances.

Under duress and in fear of losing her beloved home, she sets out on an adventure to secure her birth right and to find out who, if he even exists, is this mysterious Midnight Giant?

Channelling Tove Jansson and Hayao Mizayaki, Pearson is developing his chops still further here, crafting pages as crisp and appealing as the best all-ages bande desinée albums of today. Hilda is the perfect plucky little heroine for this endearing 21st century folklore.

OK and required to keep track of the story, but the least engaging of the three available now
See my review of Bird Parade -- this one loses some focus and was harder to invest and to follow for our young daughter. Not bad, still good... just now fantastic, like the other two in the series in our opinion.
The "Empire Strikes Back" of the Hilda series
As with Hildafolk and Hilda and the Bird Parade, this book is a funny and sweet story of the young Hilda adventures. Hilda is a great girl who makes a brave, curious and compassionate role model for children. She is plucky and sometimes overdramatic, but she is also observant and determined. This book is a little bittersweet and dark compared to Hildafolk and Hilda and the Bird Parade, which makes sense given that it is currently the second in a trilogy. It is essentially the Empire Strikes Back of the series -- hopeful and moving, but less than the other two. I would highly recommend this book to the readers of the other two in the series. It is a beautiful story, but I think Hildafolk or Hilda and the Bird Parade are a better introduction to the characters. If this is the second or third Hilda book you have read, I think it's easier to appreciate the darker, more pensive themes in this book.
   Unexpected gem.
Not a story for someone looking for a Disney princess and glitz. I, however, have two girls and they both loved it as well.
Since I came out, my son is obsessed with the show. Thank you for making it affordable for him to get the books!
   Great series!
My five-year-old son loves these books. He also watched the series on Netflix. I also enjoy reading them.
   Great family time story
Book of great quality, from front to back. The amount of care that went into its design is love. I ordered the book for my children and really enjoy reading them.
   Absolutely lovely graphic novel
Beautifully '' illustrated with the same feel as the show. Perfect :
