Book Overview

Why is it so hard to trust God sometimes?

We say we trust Him with our mouths, but often not with our lives. We live like God can't be trusted. Like He doesn't actually want what is best for us. Like He is just another person who, as Eve assumed in the Garden all those years ago, might hold out on us.

Bestselling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don't trust God--we misunderstand His holiness.

In Holier Than Thou, Jackie walks us through Scripture, shaking the dust off of holy as we've come to know it and revealing it for what it really is. In these pages, we will see that God is not like us. He is different. He is holy. And that's exactly what makes Him trustworthy. As it turns out, God being holier than thou is actually the best news in the world, and it's the key to trusting Him.

Great book on the nature of holiness
I am thankful for the work. The holiness of God is discussed byPerry. She is a theologian and a storyteller. The book is very good and I would highly recommend it.

   Fantastic Book
The Bible is the only book that has had a life changing effect on me. One of the three is called "Huir Than Thou". The impact on us of God's holiness is not new. The eternal truths she describes are refreshed by her poetic language and perspective. I have been walking with Jesus for 45 years. I was often led to cascades of understanding by his writing. That makes sense now! There were moments. I was overwhelmed by Jesus' beauty, goodness and love so many times that I cried.

   Holier than thou
She did a good job of researching and she was very honest. This book is a good read. There are 4 stars.

   Language is Hard
I want to read this book. The content is great! It will be a blessing if I can get through it. Some of the wording makes this book difficult to comprehend. If you really want to reach people, you should make the wording. I don't need a dictionary to understand what you're saying to me.

   God is Holy
I wanted to purchase this book. The book was written without preamble or fluff. The author gets to the point. The holiness of God is presented in a way that made me take a hard look at myself and my perception of who I think is God. Is my view of God keeping me from being transparent with Him? Being Holy is an important part of who God is. The book was provoking.

Like a Christian sister pointing you to Jesus
I loved him more than he loved me. It was like a Christian sister telling you to look at God. Look at it! If you have studied God's holiness before, you will be encouraged by the way it is once again.

   Weighty, profound and beautiful.
The book has been a pleasure. My understanding of the holiness of God and how it alters and transfigures our lives has been changed by the revelations of the Holy Spirit in a way that I have never experienced before. This book is written in a way that is very similar to the way JHP speaks, so if you are like me and have watched many of her messages and interviews, you will find it easy to read and listen to this book. Like how she speaks, it can come across very substantial and at times academic, so it takes some sentenceparagraph re-reading and digest. This is not a bad thing because of the topic matter which is hard to comprehend at times. I want to go back and take notes after just finishing.

   Wonderful
The gifts of wisdom and communication that the Lord has given the woman is obvious, but what I love about this book is how much she loves God. Her wisdom and worshipful attitude are what make this book worth reading. I'm very thankful this book exists.

Doing what it was supposed to do!
The book and audiobook were purchased. Listening, reading, and having a conversation with a friend who is doing the same. If you're in the deconstruction phase, it's a good idea to have bible reading with you. Well written!

   Acceptable content, nothing special
I usually have one theologyspiritual growth book I read through a chapter at a time in addition to my bible reading, and this one is falling short of expectations, though this is possibly my fault. Ten Words to Live By and Faithful to Christ are the two previous ones. The book is fine, but not particularly thought provoking. I am on chapter four and can't remember a single insight or truth that I have learned. It seems like it's more suited for children than adults. This is suitable for a middle schooler. I love her story and think she's an important voice for the church, but this book does not live up to my expectations.
