Wonderfully illustrated book about Rodney Rat who calls himself "Wodney ...
Wonderfully illustrated book about Rodney Rat, who calls himself Wodney Wat. Wodney has a speech impediment and can not say his r's. Wodney is very insecure about his speech problem and is humiliated at school with all his classmates. Wodney did not speak at all. One day a new student comes to school who intimidates everyone at school. Wodney is scared to death about what the new student will do when she hears him speak. One day during the recess, Wodney is the leader of the game, says Simon. Wodney's life turns around and he comes out of his shell and becomes popular. Great book for speech therapy with lessons on embracing confidence and being tolerant of differences.

   Hooway for Wodney Wat
The comics of Munsinger give the expressive rats depth and personality. A great help to children with speech problems. How to pronounce r &'s can be a valuable asset if you are not able to teased about it. Wodney ends up saving his whole class by Camilla Capybera, who is wiser, bigger and meaner than the other students. She actually takes him when he gives her and the group directions to wake up the leaves and westand in that direction.

   Meh.
This book was recommended to me by another teacher during training. It is over the heads of most preschoolers, and I just didn 't think it was that great anyway. I think the point of the book is that rat who is different and once made fun of is the hero at the end, but the poor rat heroism is totally unintentional. Even when I read it with first graders, I don 't think that many of them understood it or related to it very well. Nice concept but not fully baked.

   Hooway For Wodhey Wat
Wodney the Wat can not pronounce his R's. The other students at the school make fun of him. He is therefore shy and insecure. A new girl who is a bully comes to school and everyone is afraid of her. At the recess, they play Wodney, and it is Simon Says turn to give the commands. He tells the students to wake up the leaves. Then Wodney tells them to go west. The students rest under a tree while Camilla goes west and is never seen again. Wodney becomes quickly the school hero for getting rid of the class bully. I love a book when the underdog comes on top.

   children's book
This is a very funny and adorable book, but the humor is probably in it about a 4 or 5 year old audience. Adult fun for the book's adult weave.

This book worked really well and had my first grade class giggling from the beginning. I have several bullies in my room and even made a short impact on their bullying behavior.

   Good Book
This is one of my favorite books as SLP. I like to use it as a teaching tool for my R kids, I like that this speech-disrupted character gains more confidence over the course of the book. Rodney would have loved seeing speech therapy at the end of the book or in the sequel happily.
