Book Overview

I want to believe, I want to have hope, but. Pastor and bestselling author Craig Groeschel hears these words often and has asked them himself. We want to know God, feel his presence, and trust that he hears our prayers, but in the midst of great pain, we may wonder if he really cares about us. Even when we have both hope and hurt, sometimes it's the hurt that shouts the loudest. Can God be good when life is not?

In Hope in the Dark, Groeschel explores the story of the father who brought his demon-possessed son to Jesus, saying, I believe Help my unbelief In the man's sincere plea, Jesus heard the tension in the man's battle-scarred heart. He healed not only the boy but the father too, driving out the hopelessness that had overtaken him. He can do the same for us today.

As Groeschel shares his pain surrounding the current health challenges of his daughter, he acknowledges the questions we may ask in our own deepest pain: Where was God when I was being abused? Why was my child born with a disability? Why did the cancer come back? Why are all my friends married and I'm alone? He invites us to wrestle with such questions as we ask God to honor our faith and heal our unbelief.

In the middle of your profound pain, you long for authentic words of understanding and hope. You long to know that even in overwhelming reality, you can still believe that God is good. Rediscover a faith in the character, power, and presence of God. Even in the questions. Even now.

   Comforting.
Not in a pandering, it's all right! Way : In a real world, it is okay that things suck and you're wondering where the hell is God and why he lets this happen. In the last few months, I was unexpectedly broken by my long-term boyfriend. Then I moved with my family for my summer job. Afterwards, I had a mysterious health issue that forced me to leave the job. In that same week, I found out and communicated family drama that led my parents to divorce. In short, it has been hard, sad, gut-wrenching and just sucky. Pastor Craig's sermons and this book have helped me understand why God allows it to happen. This is the kind of book I would lend in a low place to any friend if I hadn 't covered it with highlights and notes. If you're in a difficult place, get the book.

   Hope in the dark/believing
Answers to many spiritual doubts I may have and the passages in the Bible to strengthen his words. I am a devoted daughter of Christ and suffer many obstacles. I will never surrender to doubt or the devil and remain faithfully to God and his son Jesus. The only thing missing was how the powers of evil are always present and can even block your path. You have never mentioned these truths. It was like fantasy and not true to reality. I loved it '', though.

Very Good Book for These Times
He admires the writer Yancey, but his writing is much better than Phillip Yancey's. On the very last page he writes about a “ free, easygoing, problem-free life ”. There is no such thing. The fact that there isn 't is why we need such a close relationship with God. I never understood how non-Christians could live a life so full of hardship without God. Groeschel writes with compassion, usually citing Habakkuk as his reference. His basis of faith for these hardships is that God will work for good, but not even in our lifetime. God works from ours on a different timeline. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for spiritual meaning in life, especially during these turbulent times.

   FOR THE FAINT OF HEART
I had been praying, and praying about my situation. He had been on the main campus in Oklahoma when our former pastor fell into adultery. Despite my 1st opinion of Pastor Craig, this dude is awesome. I brought it up and brought it on AMAZON the ebook. At the end of the chapter, I cried. I will face the death and possibility of foreclosure. God holds you accountable.
