I absolutely loved this book. The author's storytelling is impeccable. I learned a lot about horse racing, and the history of slaves as trainers and jockeys in the pre-civil war era. Highly recommend!

I just finished this novel and was about to write a glowing review. It was a pleasure to read about this nugget of history, so beautifully told. And then I read the ending. I suppose the author had some reason to undermine law enforcement but it was completely unfair (plant a gun? Seriously?) Police officers have a difficult enough job without this fictional stab in the back.
