Perfect on the first try... Frustration-free breads!

Even for an American baker, Roald's book is a must-have. This was my very first attempt at making basic white bread. It came out of the oven absolutely perfect, and I have never made yeast bread before. The quality of the explanations, tips, and step-by-step photos in this book is amazing, by any standard.

Great book! The lion share of the book is ...

The book is a great read, too. The lion's share of the book is devoted to breads. Paul does a great job of breaking down the hows and whys and showing how easy the process of bread making can be. Part of my getting rid of aluminum and non-stick cookware from my kitchen, I got rid of my bread machine. Had I had this book five years ago, I would have never bought a bread machine. It's just that much more satisfying to make it by hand. There is something almost spiritual about taking these few ingredients and making bread, he said. I'm still going strong! sourdough culture!

Excellent book for baking
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
A great book for bakers. He doesn't just tell you what to do, he tells you why you are doing it. He uses the European method of measuring, which differs from the American one. The flour is measured in grams, not cups. Centigrade temperatures are predicted to be between 38 and 44 Celsius. Another list shows the conversions of grams of butter, margarine, shortening and ethanol into cups. A list of British and American names for everything from Spam to Viagra. Wholewheat flour, which is used in breads, is also called brown rice. Also bought a small scale to weigh the flour. The results are better than most of the American recipes I've got, Bruno said. Lots of pictures of what the final product should look like and an explanation of various techniques used to make it happen. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

Fun and Easy to follow

Started with the first recipe and have been going through it one by one. Four have been done so far with varying results, but that’s me. I am really enjoying it so far, he said. The directions and units of measure are in the metric system and are weighed down on a food scale, but the finished product comes out gorgeous and the conversions aren't that diffult, he said.

Excellent book
Derived From Web , Jan 26, 2020
I am a big fan of the Great British Bake Show and I absolutely love how the 8 strand plait is in this book! I have done a few of the breads, but the most challenging, time consuming and most delicious was the pain aux raisins, which turned out wonderful! I am now spoiled and will never again be able to buy the store bought cinnamon rolls. Very proud of myself and this book is a great read, Simon said.

Good baking book!

Very useful instructions and lots of pictures. He also has to convert to American measure by weight, and he does things by volume—which is a more professional way to bake. Consistency is key, he said. Good book.
