Do NOT Recommend
Derived From Web , Jul 5, 2020
I bought this book because of the great reviews, but I wish I'd read it first. My kids weren't impressed with it. I do not like it. It has no real message other than a negative one that stealing foreign things is ok. A little girl wants to steal a mythical creature. She tried to trick the mermaid so she could capture her. The little girl tried to steal and was rescued by the mermaid. Not a positive message for kids.

Fantastic book!
Derived From Web , May 6, 2020
The rhyming and suspense in this book make it a good read. The twins renamed it How to catch a Mermaid Without a Face. The first time they read it, they wanted to see the face of the mermaid, but it was nowhere to be found. I love a kid's perspective.

My 3-Yr Old's Critique
Derived From Web , Mar 16, 2020
My daughter enjoys the book. The art is engaging for her. She wanted more in the end. She said that we don't get to see her face in the book because we don't see her face in the book. My daughter asked what her name was. The book doesn't reveal the name of the person. My daughter was disappointed that she didn't get enough of the character, but she was smart and clever.

Beautiful colorful book full of fiction!
Derived From Web , Oct 5, 2019
This book is full of objects that my niece can point out and name, and I bought it for her. The book is a good quality and the colors are vibrant. One reviewer said they didn't like the book because it made sharks out to be scary and they didn't agree with making children afraid of sharks because 100s of millions get murdered each year. This is not a fiction book. We have to explain to children that when they grow up, they won't be able to hide the exaggerated animals in movies and books. The book is wonderful.

You know the thing about a mermaid?
Derived From Web , Oct 3, 2019
My 6 month old daughter loves this book and is drinking her milk before bed. She does her best Robert Shaw impression when we finish the book. She can't really say anything yet, but when she says Dah Dah, I know she really wants to say Dah- ya know the ting about a chief? Black lifeless eyes, like a dolls eyes, are what I have.
