Very little of the book is about interpreting chicken speak '' and what is covered so poorly transcribed '' that you can apply it to your own flock. There is no organization or documentation, just personal observations. The majority of the book is just a rehash of basic practices, which are better covered elsewhere.

Pleasant read, easy to digest. But I was disappointed that I didn 't learn much I didn't already know about chickens. You could read all the interesting facts by glimping them on the images of the book in the reviews. I would not waste yr money. I already have a collection of good books, which are a good information source ''. This bk does neither contain a lot of good info and a few interesting facts.

Great for novices, but less informative for experienced backyard chicken rearers
Derived From Web , Feb 27, 2020
This book is good for the new hobbyist chicken rearer. It describes many chicken fun facts '' and what their needswants could be given the time of the year. After reading this book, I have a greater appreciation for my backyard - egg providers. Despite this, I wish that more information was given about the actual communication between chickens. Given that I spent several years with chickens, I got the impression that this book was geared towards novices and potential future hobbyists. I don 't think that there is much to be gained here for the more experienced backyard chicken reader.

Its an interesting book, with lots of tidbits of useful information. It is not a care guide, but it is a good summary of chicken behavior. The book was much smaller than expected, with a lot more pictures. Some of the information in the book was unnecessary.

This is the ultimate book of the chicken keeper? No-but it is not trying to be. This is the book that goes beyond the chick starter and the brooder temps. It delves into the chicken social structures, psychology, intelligence and tells some awesome stories. This is the book you read if you are fascinated by chickens and want to know as much as possible about their inner lives. I 'd go so far as to say that for chicken enthusiasts it is a great addition to the library. It is fun, sweet and full of enthusiasm and information for and about chickens.

Be Careful What You Say to Your Chickens
Derived From Web , Jun 12, 2018
I picked this up at a local feed store, while waiting for my chicken feed to be loaded in my truck. When I checked Amazon for it, I found it available on Kindle and saved a lot of money by buying it that way. It is a good book for newbies to backyard hens and would be very interesting for children, too. I used one of the suggested techniques and that was to imitate the sounds that your chickens make. I imitated my rooster, who was apparently offended by what I said and he came at me. I did it again and so did he. The moral of the story is that this book is so on point that I no longer imitate the rooster.
