   Handing it down to my daughter

Survival Strategies by Paul Byrd is a must-have for anyone who has ever wondered how to survive. Pretty light in any kind of craft bush information. I'd like to see more ideas for fire, knots, trapping, shelter and camp set up. He suggests that people try to be more careful about where they go and what they buy. The second chapter, "The Fallibility of Man," is probably worth more than the first. It's cool, but add weight and makes it difficult to carry in any portable carry bag.

It's just that they call it, "Sex and the City." I get this book called How to Stay Alive in the Woods, and on page 17 it's suggesting that I take food from a bear, Raymond said. I'm no survival expert, but I'm thinkingin' that should be REALLY low on the list of ways to stay alive in the woods, Raymond said. The colored text in the margins is difficult to read because of the ink density. Thanks for the book. Overall, I'm not impressed.

   A throwback that's still relevant ... mostly
I'm drawn back to an era when men were the only ones expected to experience the great outdoors with any sort of skill. Most of the survival tactics are still relevant, but there is definitely a lot of let's get after it, we'll be damned. It's just that the Beatles are not the only band to change their tune. If you can get past all that -- and you should try -- there is a wealth of information on staying found, or the art of navigating strange and large places.

When I was a boy, sometime between 1975 and 1980, my parents brought me to Old Sturbridge Village. In the gift shop, I saw this book. It was a case of "my old man" talking my way into buying it, he said. I've read that book at least 50 times. It's great to be back reading it! It's quite a few years later, but I just finished reading it again. It's not War and Peace and it's not the greatest how to manual ever written." It has some useful information, too. It's written with warmth and humor, Raymond said. If you're serious about learning survival skills, check out Creek Stewart or Dave Canterbury. got this book for my wife who loves hiking in the woods with our 9 year old nephew and show him the different plants that are edible and explain about the different bugs and animals and such.

I really just don't like the format of this book or the tone the author uses the entire time, which is essentially people who die in the woods are complete fools, Raymond said. I've done my share of survival training and camping and learned next to nothing from this book, Mr. Rule told the judge. Simply put, it will give the reader just enough information to get themselves killed.
