Book Overview

Don't miss a moment of the How to Train Your Dragon series, the bestselling, funny, action-packed books that inspired the hit movies

The story begins when Hiccup, his friend Fishlegs, and his cranky dragon Toothless get separated from their class during Boarding-an-Enemy-Ship practice. They accidentally board a prowling Roman galley intent on provoking war. When they rescue a tiny nanodragon, they uncover a plot to steal every dragon on the Isle of Berk

This is just the start to an epic adventure that will have kids laughing from start to finish, and shines with Cressida Cowell's trademark blend of action, humor, heart, and engaging illustrations.

Fishlegs did not follow Hiccup and Toothless's conversation in Dragonese, but instead spoke Dragonese to Horrowcow, who is not a native of Dragonese. O.K. is the story. I don't have kiddies to read to, but I like the movies and the series, so it is interesting to read the original inspiration, and I wish they gave a discount for this book. There are better series out there, the characters are flat compared to the animated versions, and Toothless's personality is more of a spoiled child than the hero in the series. It would be interesting to see Romans in the series.

The books are utterly different than the movies (which my 6 year-old and I love), butgreat in their own right
I highly recommend the books if you haven't read them yet. I read them to my child. A solo read for 8 year olds and up. You should know that they are not like the movies. The characters and stories in the movies are terrific and clever, but I am even more impressed by the books than I am by the movies. That's not a problem, the books are great in their own right. It's totally different. A lot more sarcastic. It's way more revolting. It's fun, fun, fun. Berk's denizens barely resemble their more smoothly drawn derivitives in the films, so don't be alarmed.

My son and I spent many glorious nights with our friends from Berk!!
For any fan of dragons, young or old, there is only one person who gets the highest marks for fun, humor, imagination and likability. By now, everyone knows who Hiccup and Toothless are, but how did they get started? Treat your family to all of the adventures of Hiccup, Toothless and the residents of Berk and have a great time.

NOT LIKE THE MOVIE VERY DIFFERENT
The story is different from the movies and it's hard for kids to read. The story is the basis of the movies, but the experience and characters are very different. Harder training can be directed at the dragon trainers by Goethe. It's 10 years old and he shouldn't be threatened in the story. Before you start reading to your child, read the chapter.

We have watched all the movies, and now the kids are reading on the device. They only last for a few days.

   A GREAT SERIES!!!
The language and fun of the book series made me enjoy it. Your children will love reading and listening to these stories. Creative and fun. The word choices invoke the mood of the story, and will bring a deep desire to keep reading. I didn't have the ability to put them down. I am an adult, but reading them to children, or them reading it to themselves, will be a great adventure! The names of Vikings are hilarious. The books in this series are terrific.

   Very good story
It's very good on its own, not the same as the movies and tv shows. Hiccup is a great Viking and an everyday hero, but Toothless is not as nice.
