Book Overview

From the author of Happiness for Beginners comes the instant New York Times bestseller (May 2018), an unforgettable love story about finding joy even in the darkest of circumstances.

Margaret Jacobsen is just about to step into the bright future she's worked for so hard and so long: a new dream job, a fianc she adores, and the promise of a picture-perfect life just around the corner. Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in a brief, tumultuous moment.

In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Maggie must confront the unthinkable. First there is her fianc , Chip, who wallows in self-pity while simultaneously expecting to be forgiven. Then, there's her sister Kit, who shows up after pulling a three-year vanishing act. Finally, there's Ian, her physical therapist, the one the nurses said was too tough for her. Ian, who won't let her give in to her pity, and who sees her like no one has seen her before. Sometimes the last thing you want is the one thing you need. Sometimes we all need someone to catch us when we fall. And sometimes love can find us in the least likely place we would ever expect.

How to Walk Away is Katherine Center at her very best--a masterpiece of a novel that is both hopeful and Read More chevron_right

Wonderful story. Lots of emotions. Highly recommend.

Positive story about a dreadful tragedy
In "The Whole Nine Yards," Katherine Coulter tells a story that could be a tear jerker but turns out to be a funny, positive tale. His wife, played by Gillian Anderson, is flawed but human. It was a great show, said Blair.

   Love
Yes, there was predictability to it, but at just the right side and just the right time.

   injury and adjustment
Many people experience life very differently than they expected it to be. In "Shattered Glass," Frey and Daniels examine how devastating injury can be and how it impacts all of your life, including the people in it. A great book, well written and well-placed.

   Excellent
Living your best life even after a tragedy takes you down and tries to drown you is a true testament to God's grace and mercy. I wasn't sure I could finish this through the first several chapters as she was just to much of a doormat for me. But the author took her time to get to me, and I was drawn in completely. Ian McKellan's favourite character, hands down, is Simon. Ms. Center's performance as a passionate and realistic love interest was simply stunning.

   Bravo!
What a wonderful book with a heart-lifting story that could have easily been just the opposite. Will look for more reads from this author.

   Awful
Awful, waste of time, Mr. Rule told the judge. Do not bother, beginning, started, and deteriorated into complete and utter boredom. Also, very poorly written.

This one will stay with me for a long time. Excellent!
I've read all the books, but this was by far the best. It's such an inspiring story of someone who survives a tragedy and becomes a hero. The cast members were also realistic and relatable, making for a good story. I've loved the bond between the two. Great read, said Dr. Goin.

   Great story
Great dialogue, interesting characters, entertaining plot and that means a book is hard to put down, he said. Highly recommend.

   Enjoyable leisurely read
I enjoyed reading this book, and I recommend it to anyone. It kept my interest and overall I felt emotionally invested in the main character's journey, Morgenthau said. At times, I felt it was a bit unrealistic in regards to events and conversational exchange. If you're looking for a book to escape your daily life and enter a world of heartache, change, adaptation and love, this is for you.
