Book Overview

The 22nd book in the New York Times bestselling series of biographies about heroes tells the story of Anne Frank, the young Jewish girl who documented her life while hiding from the Nazis during World War I.

This engaging biography series focuses on the traits that made our heroes great--the traits that kids can aspire to in order to live heroically themselves. Each book tells the story of an icon in a lively, conversational way that works well for the youngest nonfiction readers. At the back are an excellent timeline and photos. This volume features Anne Frank, whose courage and hope during a time of terror are still an inspiration for people around the world today. While Anne and her family hid in an attic during the Holocaust, she kept a journal about all her hopes and fears and observations. That journal and the story of her life are still read and told today to remember the life of a young girl and warn against the consequences of bigotry.

   I Am Anne Frank
This is a great book to introduce Anne Frank and the beginning of the holocaust to a younger child. It is extremely important for everyone to continue discussing the holocaust so that history does not repeat itself. The illustrations are fantastic, the book is well worth the price tag. Only a negative comment is that I was reading the book in kindle and the print was so small. I highly recommend this book to all.

Upbeat intro to a difficult topic
This was a very light introduction to Anne Frank and focused mostly on the positive that she added to the world rather than the atrocities that she suffered. I think it's a good place for kids to start their explorations of the topic.

A tasteful handling of this story for young children
This is a difficult story to present to young children. This story manages to convey hope for mankind within Anne's story in a way that is digestible for young children while leaving the door open for deeper conversations with children who are ready for more detail.

Beautiful way to navigate a difficult story
Beautifully navigated - appropriate but honest for young kids. The author uses Anne's words as much as possible which is as a wonderful and thoughtful way to elevate her voice.

   Possibly Brad Meltzer's Best
We have a bunch of books in this series -- this one I think is possibly the best one. It was beautifully written, allowed space for parents to have great and deep conversations with their kids, and provided good context, he said. Some of it was hard to read to my kids but these books need to be read to kids. I got a bunch for gifts and will be sharing them all over the place.

Difficult story told with beauty and light
I still have tears in my eyes. What an amazing book. A difficult story to tell and yet done with such beauty and light. Every classroom, every library, every child should have this book. He has an amazing talent for telling a story that will resonate with all children and adults alike. Mr. Meltzer and Mr. Eliopoulos, Illustrators, did a great job.

   A much-needed book. Thank you!
Thanks for the book! Beautifully written for kids, it gracefully tells this important story in a way that evokes emotions in kids but doesn't frighten them. It helped guide an open, honest, and inspiring conversation about Anne Frank and the importance of speaking up when you see injustice. It also enabled us to speak about the Holocaust in an age-appropriate way with our young kids, something I didn't think was possible until we read this book.
