Book Overview

Harriet Tubman's heroic and pivotal role in the fight against slavery is the subject of the fourteenth picture book in this New York Times bestselling biography series

This friendly, fun biography series focuses on the traits that made our heroes great--the traits that kids can aspire to in order to live heroically themselves. Each book tells the story of one of America's icons in a lively, conversational way that works well for the youngest nonfiction readers and that always includes the hero's childhood influences. At the back are an excellent timeline and photos. This volume focuses on Harriet Tubman's brave heroism as part of the movement to abolish slavery. As one of the key players in the Underground Railroad, she helped enslaved African Americans escape and find freedom.

   Great Series for Young Readers
The books are accessible, well illustrated and provide a great thumbnail sketch of the people and roadblocks that overcame great minds like Charles Darwin, Robert Hein and Louis Pasteur. We have not only the Harriet Tubman book, but also ones on Lincoln, Einstein, Helen Keller, Jackie Robinson, Earhart and one or two others. The books also pave the way for discussing some of the not so cheery parts of America's past, such as slavery, racism, and the second-class status of women. My six and four year old girls enjoy them and frequently pick one from a pile of books to read to their bedtime story time.

   I am. . .They relate!!
I bought this for my students so they could read about the lives of famous people when they were children. My third-grade students love, love, love the series, Mrs. Caramore said. To see third graders love biographies as much as Dog-Man is most inspiring and has us on our way to wide reading for the year!

Books are always a nice present
Note the comparison: I’ve written the same review to almost all the books in this series. My daughter and son love them. Been a fan of the entire series for a few months now. Super easy readings for kids, even on the 20-minute trip between house and school. You can later discuss the story with the kids. Most of the kids will never forget, even if they have been through many names and events.

   Inspiring Book
I've seen the entire series of Ordinary People Change the World. There are two historical figures that are connected to positive character traits in a comic style. My students loved reading this book and I'm excited to share it with them.

This book is beautifully done and deals with some of the hard aspects of Harriet Tubman's story without being frightening, said Dr. Abraham. We purchased this book for our homeschool as a way to engage in this chapter of Black History.

   Great Series!!!
I can't praise the series Ordinary People Change the World enough. Please, do not hesitate to book your copy of The Lord's Prayer. The author does an excellent job portraying famous historical figures in a way that is very exciting for children, Witt said. Currently we are working on collecting the remaining three volumes.

   Best books
You can't go wrong with that. It's great to see the kids still having fun with it." We read them all night, every night. Each book teaches that they were just ordinary people who had different struggles in life but they persevered by being courageous and not giving up, the writer said.

   Wonderful and Moving
A great book for young readers. I bought for my 18-month old to read to her, she's too young for the format of the book but I'm sure I can modify the story to keep her attention. The second book, "The Rite of Passage," carries a valuable message about escaping horror, courage and helping others do the same. I hope that my daughter will learn from these wonderful and strong historical women, Mary.

   Fantastic book!
It had my kindergartener asking all sorts of questions about slavery. It was a good way to approach this subject and her story of what she accomplished is so amazing. 0 1462228 It was a good way to approach this subject and her story of what she accomplished is so amazing.
