This Description may be from another edition of this product.

The horror of Hurricane Katrina is brought vividly to life in this fictional account of a boy, a dog, and the storm of the century.

Barry's family tries to evacuate before Hurricane Katrina hits their home in New Orleans. But when Barry's little sister gets terribly sick, they're forced to stay home and wait out the storm.

At first, Katrina doesn't seem to be as bad as predicted. But overnight the levees break, and Barry's world is literally torn apart. He's swept away by the floodwaters, away from his family. Can he survive the storm of the century -- alone?

   Great Book
My son learned a lot about the Katrina hurricane and learned a lot about it. He read about 4 books from this series while in Florida, while he was in Florida. I bought this book as a summer read and I will tell you that he enjoyed it because he is 9 years old and was told from a child's perspective. He continues to ask me for them when he sees one that he hasn't read. Along with this for the summer, he read the Battle of Gettysburg, 1863. The 1916 Shark Attack and I survived the Attacks of September 11. This one hit home really hard because we live in Manhattan and I wanted him to understand what really happened. I thought it was a great idea to put the books in order, and I decided that it was a great idea. So, would I recommend these book???????????? D E F I N I T E L Y!!!!!!!!!!!! ! !

   Great Series for Kids
This book was purchased as a gift for a 9 year old. He was particularly excited to receive it because this story references events during his birth year. The larger series is also popular with his friends, and they share comments on what books they like the best. I am very pleased with these books, written to attract the attention of children, so I am well.

Honest, my son loves this book and he still reads it over and over again. This is an excellent reference for children who want to find out the facts about the recent hurricane in Katrina, considered the worst natural disaster in US history. I was lucky to be able to buy one for my son through this site. Thanks! '' Thanks!

   Relatable Historical Fiction
This is a series I like both as a parent and teacher. I read this book before a trip to New Orleans to my ten-year-old daughters and I read it before a trip to New Orleans. They had heard the Katrina hurricane, but this book made the events relatable. The series I Survived is always memorable, heartfelt, hopeful and intense. The book did not disappoint.
