Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

The Mountain of Fire was lying in wait.

It was one the most beautiful mountains in America, Mt. St. Helens, in Washington State. But what many didn't know was that this peaceful mountain had an explosive past. For more than a century, it had been quiet. But below ground, pressure had been building, and soon, Kaboom Mt. St. Helens would erupt with terrifying fury.

Eleven-year-old Sally Tanner knew the mountain well, and like many, she never imagined that this serene wilderness could turn deadly. But on May 10th, 1980, Sally finds herself in the middle of the deadliest volcanic eruption in U.S. history. Trapped on the mountain, she must escape clouds of poisonous gas, boiling rivers, and landslides of rock, glacial ice, and white-hot debris.

This book in the I Survived series will take readers into one of the most dramatic events in recent U.S. history where they will meet one of nature's most devastating forces.

   Great Series
This series is my favorite 10 year old's series. Since the 2nd grade, he has been reading them and since then the second grade. I read them aloud to my younger son and find myself captivated and eager to read the whole story in a single reading. The author does a fabulous job of describing the audience and capturing the scenes and events. I highly recommend this series for children to read. It also gets them very interested in history.

WE eperienced Mt St Helens eruiption.
I bought this book for my 7 - year old grandson, who loves reading and reads above his grade level. My only disappointment was that the author addressed girls, encouraging them to be adventurous, rather than boys and girls before the title. I knew it was about a girl surviving this historic event, but thought that would not exclude the inclusion of boys. I would feel the same if it had been boys and girls. I have crossed girls and wrote boys and girls... so the book has not yet read the book, hopefully he will enjoy the story. The delivery was fast and the book was described in a new condition.

   Buy! You’ll thank me!
Bought some and ordered some after reading the first couple with my 6-7 year old, we bought everyone from the series. Such a great read for young children. True events are really fun and enjoyable, but about true events, not just fun and enjoyable. Great history - lesson and makes learning fun. My son could not wait to start the next one. Highly recommended for any young reader. If you are not sure about it, I tell you that you’ll thank me after reading the first. They are all fantastic!

   Love these books
My 7 year old and 9 year old love both these books! They are simple reads, but still have enough content to keep their interest. We love them because they are educational and rather than informational through a child's perspective! We especially love those that we have actually lived through, we have visited or somewhere we have visited! Provokes a conversation outside the book!

   Excellent Storytelling!
Just like all her other books, this one did not disappoint, it was really nice to have a young girl for a change instead of a boy. This book is highly recommended!

... have several of these books that my two boys love to have read to them
We have several of these books that my two boys love to have read to them. Great, great historical stories with great, exciting elements to them. Great for beginning discussions. The reason I give 4 stars is that the binding is very cheaply done on the books. After the books are cracked open just one or two times, the binding begins to come apart.
