Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants in Wild (and Not So Wild) Places shows readers how to find and prepare more than five hundred different plants for nutrition and better health. It includes information on common plants such as mullein (a tea made from the leaves and flowers suppresses a cough), stinging nettle (steam the leaves and you have a tasty dish rich in iron), cattail (cooked stalks taste similar to corn and are rich in protein), and wild apricots (an infusion made with the leaves is good for stomach aches and disgestive disorders).
More than 260 detailed line drawings help readers identify a wide range of plants -- many of which are suited for cooking by following the more than thirty recipes included in this book. There are literally hundreds of plants readily available underfoot waiting to be harvested and used either as food or as a potential therapeutic. This book is both a field guide to nature's bounty and a source of intriguing information about the plants that surround us.
It takes about 6 Hours and 47 minutes on average for a reader to read Identifying And Harvesting Edible And Medicinal Plants. This is based on the average reading speed of 250 Words per minute.
Identifying And Harvesting Edible And Medicinal Plants is 336 pages long.

Use with Caution
Derived From Web , May 26, 2022
This book would have been more useful if it contained black and white pictures instead of colored illustrations. Also, more thought needs to go into the organization. The mention of toxic plants without a side by side comparison is cause for alarm. I do not think that this book is a suitable reference ''.

but I do absolutely love this book
Derived From Web , May 26, 2022
I wish the pictures came in color, but I absolutely love this book. It is easy to see, the pictures are large enough to see detailed information about plants to identify, and it is very detailed in the descriptions of each plant and their uses. I'm looking forward to capturing more wild plants now that I know what they are!

Nice book, but not as useful as The Forager's Harvest A Guide to Identifying, Harvesting and Preparing Edible Wild Plants.

Great book

This book is different, it is full of details and information about all great plant species. If it had also included color photos, it would have been perfect.

Awesome book for beginners
Derived From Web , Jul 31, 2021
This is my favorite book foraging. Tons of good information recipes, medical uses, IDing, cultural uses, where to find the plant, helpful tips and more. Beautiful illustrations even though I wish they were in color. The author is actually kind of funny! Sometimes it makes me laugh out loud. A fun, informative and interesting read and a good reference book. The only downside is size, makes it hard to bring with you into the field. But I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

It's ok

I spelt through this book. I am an excellent reader, but not for what I want it. With today's technology, I believe it is unseesary to use pictures that have not been photographed. I like photographs because it gives me a better idea of what I am looking at or for. I gave it three stars because it looks like good information.

Great book, but drawings, not pictures
Derived From Web , Nov 21, 2020
This is a great book for information and recipes, but it has drawings of plants rather than actual photographs... It is nice that it has been broken into seasons, which can be helpful, but I returned it and bought another recommended collection with actual photographs if you are already a pro at identification for you are planning to plant your own wild garden, this book is definitely worth it...

Good aide for those wanting to learn to return to a non-pharmaceutical non-high priced way of curing and to stay healthy. Just had to purchase an additional book with plant illustrations in color.

This book is a great resource if you are trying to get familiar with ...
Derived From Web , Jan 19, 2017
This book is a great resource if you are trying to become familiar with all edible and medicinal plant species available. I would say that it is close to a Wikipedia of knowledge about plants. I am still reading this book from time to time. This book also serves as a beautiful center piece for a house or a gift for a naturalist!
