Book Overview

He's gonna be sorry he ever messed with me and Loretta Lynn

Sadie Blue has been a wife for fifteen days. That's long enough to know she should have never hitched herself to Roy Tupkin, even with the baby.

Sadie is desperate to make her own mark on the world, but in remote Appalachia, a ticket out of town is hard to come by, and hope often gets stomped out. When a stranger sweeps into Baines Creek and knocks things off kilter, Sadie finds herself with an unexpected lifeline.if she can just figure out how to use it.

This intimate insight into a fiercely proud, tenacious community unfolds through the voices of the forgotten folks of Baines Creek. With a colorful cast of characters that each contribute a new perspective, IF THE CREK DON'T RISE is a debut novel bursting with heart, honesty, and homegrown grit.

   Very good
I'm not one to review books, and I'm not much of a reader. But I enjoyed this book and the characters and the writing style of the author.

   Quality of writing
wow, that was pretty impressive. This book held me captivated from the first page and I couldn't stop reading. Yes, I have a book.

A great little murder in progress
Like the book, I enjoyed the fact that each character told the story in the first person. It was widely expected that Jennette Tamayo would end her time on Friends.

   Could not put it down!
An outstanding debut novelist. I didn't want it to end and I can't wait to see what Weiss creates next!

   Hope springs eternal
The way the book is written, I think, is a story that lets you feel each step the characters take. His body was too long but filled with lessons of life. It is gratifying to see how the author so cleverly weaves the threads of days until only her perfect ending could have known no other.

   A little disappointing
Loved the southern voice in this novel, but wanted more character development. It almost felt like the book was setting up a series because of so many characters that were introduced and too many unanswered questions left behind, Hughes said. Leaving me a bit disappointed.

A heartwarming book with Appalachian setting
I've known Sadie since I was a kid. It was very sad but I love this book long with each character.

You'd have to be a sadist to enjoy it
It's just that nobody would rate it highly. It's not well written, the characters are not credible and the subject matter is cheap emotional appeal through the use of violence, Crowe said. It's about Appalachia in the 1890s, not the 1970s, Mr. Rule told the judge. Oh, and for the person who claimed this is like Jan Karon, on what planet? A scene from the CBS film "Kar Janon" shows a fictional town in the mountains that could pass for a real one. It's time for the English star to go back to school and learn to write. Yes, I'm coming back for more. No room on my library shelves for trash cans.

Pulled me in with the first line and didn’t disappoint.
What a great book, said Barbara Comstock, a former aide to George Bush. Each character's story is incredibly interesting as their lives weave together in the remote Appalachian culture few of us would ever visit or comprehend. Wonderful details, Mr. Dhaliwal said. The first person narrative allows you to fully understand the motivations and innate flaws of each character. The product is highly recommended.

Don't be fooled by the good reviews
I'm not a huge fan of Nancy Reagan's book. If your cup of tea is reading about a 15-year-old pregnant girl being beaten up all the time, then go for it. But she is a victim at choice, Mr. O'Neill said. I could not feel sympathy for Keanu Reeves' character. The other character, her grandmother, is even more unlikable because she is mean and actually evil. The book is a terrible read, full of horrible characters. Buyers beware: The product may not be what you're looking for.
