Here's a marvelous picture book, charmingly written and beautifully illustrated, about the power of memory and the magic of friendship.
Llewellyn, a little rabbit, is a collector. He gathers things in jars--ordinary things like buttercups, feathers, and heart-shaped stones. Then he meets another rabbit, Evelyn, and together they begin to collect extraordinary things--like rainbows, the sound of the ocean, and the wind just before snow falls. And, best of all, when they hold the jars and peer inside, they remember all the wonderful things they've seen and done. But one day, Evelyn has sad news: Her family is moving away. How can the two friends continue their magical collection--and their special friendship--from afar?It takes about 5 Hours and 25 minutes on average for a reader to read In A Jar. The sweetest book!! And great for when kids have a close friend move away!
Derived From Web , Mar 6, 2021
This book is the sweetest! We touched it at the library and stumbled my heart. My girls are 4 and recently I had a best friend move away. He has been having a very hard time adjusting himself. The kids went together on outdoor scavenger hunts every time. This was perfect... we gave him this book and a little jar filled from our “ Nature Bin †and added an empty jar to encourage him to find a new friend to explore with while at the same time remembering our adventures!

Carbon Copy of Juna’s Jar
Derived From Web , Oct 12, 2020
I am so sad ''. I ordered 2 copies to give as gifts for an upcoming shower, only to discover that the plot is shockingly similar to Juna's Jar. In my good conscience, I can not distribute this to others. You would think that a publisher like Penguin would have conducted a landscape analysis to test the authenticity of the book. I return my copies of In A Jar.

Beautiful story and illustrations!
Derived From Web , Mar 3, 2020
It is a great book to teach children about the importance of sharing experiences and preserving memories than material objects. It is also a great conversation starter for children's experiences with moving away and missing people that they used to spend a lot of time with. The illustrations do a fantastic job of presenting the jars full of memories from the shared experiences of the rabbits. There are so many details in the illustrations and they are very pleasant to look at.

Wholehearted storytelling, astonishing art
Derived From Web , Feb 13, 2020
This mystical book has quickly become a favorite in our house. The story has the elegance and richness of a ZenKoan, a small but perfect poem about friendship, loss, connection over time and space, and opening up your heart again. The entire column of Evelyn while driving away aches with sadness, and the empty jar page captures the sense of loss so poignantly. In the years to come, I share this with many friends and family as gifts.

Love this book
Derived From Web , Feb 11, 2020
I love the warmth of language and the underlying message of sharing, savoring and collecting memories and friendship. Deborah, Bravo! While other reviewers saw similarities with another book that was published years earlier, I disagree. Although I read the Amazon preview of the other title, the style, setting and language was so different than in a Jar, except for the jar and collecting aspect. It is not a problem to me. I love this charming book and its beautiful illustrations ''.

Lovely
Derived From Web , Feb 4, 2020
It is a children's story sure. But this is 35 pages of gorgeous artwork that anyone can enjoy—from sweeping 2-page spreads to being lost in minute, quirky details. I was looking at a jar of raspberry preserves at the breakfast table and it reminded me of this taking luscious but ephemeral fruit and concentrating it into a form that lasts. Likewise, this book is a celebration of how sharing an experience with someone special makes it sweeter and more enduring. Check out Ms. Marcero's other books as well.

Gentle friendship story with luminous illustrations
Derived From Web , Jan 27, 2020
I bought two copies-one for my family and one for a baby shower and will probably continue to purchase this in the future as a gift for children. This story of a friendship made and then sustained over time is tender and thought-provoking, with the little rabbit protagonist collecting and sharing things that can be seen as literal, but also as metaphors for mindfulness and memory. The illustrations are luminous and gentle. I pore over them as do the children who have read it. I hope this beautiful book is a contender for the Caldecott Medal for children's book illustration next year!

Every page is absolutely wonderful!
Derived From Web , Jan 22, 2020
This story draws you in. Each page is so magnificently done. One page it is mostly leaves blowing with a square placed on the page. Both the author and the illustrator go hand in had. One is just as important as the other to get you enlightened by this book. In spite of the sorrow, the ending turns out very good. It gives a relaxed feeling for kids that life goes on and works just fine if we continue.
