Henri Nouwen was a spiritual thinker with an unusual capacity to write about the life of Jesus and the love of God in ways that have inspired countless people to trust life more fully. Most widely read among the over 40 books Father Nouwen wrote is In the Name of Jesus. For a society that measures successful leadership in terms of the effectiveness of the individual, Father Nouwen offers a counter definition that is witnessed by a communal and mutual experience. For Nouwen, leadership cannot function apart from the community. His wisdom is grounded in the foundation that we are a people called. This beautiful guide to Christian Leadership is the rich fruit of Henri Nouwen's own journey as one of the most influential spirtiual leaders of the 20th century.

It is very relevant to any one ministry or any other ministry or activity in which the Lord is actively involved. It's refreshing and a great reminder of God's promise to shepherds, he said. Overall, it was very humbling to read, said Dr. Chester Floyd, director of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It's great to have it all, even if you're not a pastor or church leader. One thing I would have liked is it to be a bit longer and deeper, so that we could go into some of the more difficult areas. However, the application stands, even if written a decade ago.

A Must Read for all Christian Leaders and therefore all Christians
Derived From Web , May 2, 2022
You can give more copies to friends and family members who read them. My first exposure to Nouwen's writings and I immediately purchased more of his works. His advice to Christian leaders is practical and timeless, Raymond said. The book is a QUICK read, said Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It could be done in one day, but it is full of ideas that will get you thinking. If you enjoyed this one, you will want to read it again.

Wonderful book
Derived From Web , May 2, 2022
I so enjoyed this book and although required to read it along with three other textbooks for a class, I was surprised that I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a surprise to my mom, because she has always enjoyed it too, and she can pass it on to my dad. I'm not a big fan of Michael Jackson, but this book is well worth the read.

I appreciated Nouwen's desire to make the transition from leading from power to leading from humility, said Dr. Goin. I could identify with the cultural tendency that he named, to become well educated, have a big church and have power, he said.

3 Touchpoints for All Aspiring Servant Leaders
Derived From Web , Feb 6, 2022
I wanted to learn more about servant leadership principles from a number of different angles, he said. In this book, Henri identifies three temptations that can trip up otherwise successful Christian leaders and push them into the limelight: being Relevant, to be Popular, to be Powerful. It's a very short read, but I'm fairly certain the ideas will stick with you. Though it was written for Christian leaders, I think all well-meaning servant leaders will find something of value you might find not from another source.

So Needed for Today's Church of the West
Derived From Web , Dec 21, 2021
The book eloquently critiques the church of the West without ever leveling a critical word against it. The juxtapositions throughout the book will resonate with anyone honest enough to admit the faults of modern leadership and the secularization that has brought into the church, in many ways beyond repair. But Nouwen breathes hope, life, and vision for the future—even in the face of daunting odds—and that beauty and wisdom buried within the pages of scripture, rarely seen by the light of day.
