An Important Book for Teens and Tweens
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
As a child, I wore out my paper copy of this book because I loved it and was interested in Native American culture. It is an easy read for any child, including boys and girls. In addition to the accurate, detailed, interesting writing and drawings of Native American ways and artifacts, the book also focuses on the very real feelings of grief, loss, and abandonment, and finally the acceptance of a child who has lost her family and been forced to accept a new one. Children nowadays lose family and friends through death, divorce, and sudden family moves, and being able to relate to Mollie's sadness and the firm but kind behavior of her new people could be therapeutic for a child in one of those situations. I would recommend this book to any child between the ages of 8 and 9 who has struggled with grief and loss, even if they are not an adult.

This was my favorite book when I was a little girl, and it still is.
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
This book is recommended by me. When I was a child, I loved this book. And it still is. My old one was so old that the back cover was lost, so I had to get a new one. I thought to myself. I need to get a new book. I did. I like the character of Beaver Girl because I liked her shyness from chapter 9 where she met MaryMollyCorn Tassel. Her words in chapter 13 touched my heart every time I read them. There is a section in the book that touches my heart every time I read it. I will never be happy again if you return to the whites. I will not have anyone to talk to, no one to work with, and no friend to love. Corn Tassel, be my friend and stay with me. Every time I read them, I think of them.

A Decent Read
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
The book was recommended for readers who enjoyed The Ransom of Mercy Carter, but I was disappointed. I understand that Mary's story is about a real life occurrence, but I didn't like the character or the story. I usually end up rooting for the character even if they don't like them. The author didn't get me as involved as I would have liked. I would have preferred more detail and background than the same thing over and over. Some may like it, but it didn't work for me. If it was good enough, it would have found its own spot in my heart, just like all the other books I' ve read.

Little Girl's Book...
Derived From Web , Feb 8, 2022
I want to clarify the reviews of this book. The book is written for little girls. It is based on a real person, but the events are not first person or factual, but rather as a narrative, including the main character's thoughts and emotions, although the author is not part of the story line or subject expert. The book is a child's storybook and not a biography or a documentary. Know what you' re getting Enjoy it.

Little Woman of Great Courage
Derived From Web , Jul 6, 2021
Mary Jenison was held captive by the Indians. She lived among them for two years, missing her family a lot. She was unsuccessful in escaping. She can return to the lifestyle of the white man. She will either stay or leave. A book about Native American life during the time of the French and Indian war will make any preteen want to read it again.

Great Book
Derived From Web , Jan 10, 2020
This is a very good book. I got another copy because I remember it from when I was a kid. It was just as good as I remembered it being when I read it again. The book is not fiction. I think it's a good idea.

Good view of life as an Indian in the NE in the 1800's.
Derived From Web , Oct 23, 2019
I read this book many years ago when I was a school girl and wanted to share it with my children when they are old enough. It gives a good idea of what life was like for the Seneca Indians in the 1800's. The recollections of a white woman who was taken captive as a teenager and spent the rest of her life with the Indians are the basis of the film. There is a statue of her as a young woman in Letchworth State Park where she is buried. I would recommend this book to anyone who is at least 10 years old.
