I love Todd Parr!

If you're looking for fun, progressive, and that send positive messages, these are the books to buy! As the sole parent of a 6-month-old, I have been looking for books on alternative families that I will be able to read my son when he begins to discern our family from other families. I came across Parr's The Mommy Book and The Family Book, which include a diverse array of both traditional and nontraditional families. It's okay to be different and the feelings book, which provides simple yet fantastic ideas for conversations around healthy expressions of behavior and identity, was also recommended.

Good book to introduce ideas about diversity

It was for my sister's child. The family lives in a small town in Ohio that is primarily white and Christian and that is also racist, anti-homosexual, etc. i.e., totally intolerant. I'm hoping this book will plant a seed in my nephew's head that it's ok if some people don't fit in the majority, Raymond said. I think this book presents that idea in an easily digestible fashion, Raymond said.

Colourful, high contrast children's book suitable for a large reader base. However, depending on the listener, varying levels of message can be drawn out with relevant questions. Our kids do not have a traditional family unit, this book has helped them understand there are all sorts of ways to be different, even if they are not traditional. It's about diversity, Tunick said. Our children absolutely love the book. It's just that they have taken it for show and tell."

My daughter absolutely loves it, and I'm pretty sure she thinks it's about colors. It is great and although some of the message is still not clear to her, she loves it and I suspect will continue to do so, Mr Gest said.

This book is so great for all children, even the littlest ones. We have been going through some big changes in our family and had a hard time finding books to help our child understand what was happening, Mrs. Dhaliwal said. The pages are colorful and repetitive, and the illustrations are well done. My kid asks us to read this an annoying number of times each week which is my measure of child likability.

Poor Quality for the Price

The book was purchased for my 3 year old son. I try to always buy used because he is very hard on them, even though they are in terrible condition. It had been completely ripped in half and taped together, sections had been pulled loose from the spine and the book looked like it had been left behind. My son loves it so I will keep it, he said, but it is below my reasonable bar for acceptance.
