   LOVE this book!..Great Childhood Memories!
I was so happy that they had this available. If you like Japanese folklore, you'll enjoy it. I grew up believing in this story and still look for the Rabbit in the Moon! ''

Well written, but not what I had hope for
Overall, this is a well written and illustrated book. For my son, I don 't like the themes. Bad people get what they deserve, etc. In this regard, Aesop's fables were not much different, so I should not have such a utopian expectation that Japanese fables would be different. If you don 't mind Aesop and want to explore the stories of Japanese children, this is a good choice.

   Mom and son approved
I bought this for my 7 year old son because I remember my mother reading me these stories when I was young. I was not sure if he likes it, but I am glad that he enjoys it and wants me to read this book every night for him. As many others have said, this is not your typical fake fairy tale Disney love story, which I find refreshing. Each story has a moral - mostly not to lie and entice others and to be kind. My son is the sensitive type, so I did have to edit or omit some words in some stories, but as he gets older, I know I won t have and this sturdy hardcover will surely last for many years. The best part is that these are all short stories so that it keeps his attention lol. After each story, I always ask him What was the moral of this story? '' And because the stories are short but captivating, he is able to tell me what I think is great!

   Classic Nostagic Stories!
He is only 2.5, so there is no solo reading from this book yet. I had this book when I was a child and enjoyed all these stories when my grandma read them to me. Some people might be offended or put by some of these short stories and think that they are too old and yes, the stories are not all rainbows and sunshine, but are like Asop's fables, with MORALS! I grew up reading this book and it has not scarred me anyway! It is a great book to have for children.

grew up with these stories...still awesome although some are a bit dated
I grew up with all these stories and it is a treat to share them with my children. While some of the stories or content are a little dated or slightly difficult to relate to, it is still super cool.

My childhood stories are from my childhood. I couldn 't believe that I found this book almost exactly as mine from 50 years ago. It was given as a gift and loved by the recipient.

   Not the usual ...
Being half Japanese, these stories remind me of my mother... Just be aware that the Japanese teach their children lessons and some stories do not have the happies ever after '' endings we are used in the United States. I bought 2 of these that I gave to adults in Japan studying English. They had written familiar stories in English and loved it. Also sweet illustrations are included.
