Great for Christian's deeper reading of the Hebrew Scriptures!
As a Catholic monk, priest I am particularly pleased with this Bible! The TNK translation is readable and quite fresh. But the commentaries are particularly insightful and have begun to deepen my appreciation for the Hebrew Scriptures, on which I enjoy the sermons. My slow reading of the accompanying commentary of Genesis has been a wonderful gift. My only concern is the paper. It seems to be opaque, but is sufficiently fragile. So, I'm careful, and find turning the pages a bit tricky at times. But I love this Bible and look forward to an ongoing Jewish reading of the Scriptures. A great investment, but a Jewish colleague recommended!

   Jewish Study Bible
I ran this Bible at the library by accident. Always aware of the Jewish roots of Christianity, I borrowed it and knew within a few hours of use that I really needed to buy it. The notes in this Bible are from the Jewish perspective rather than Christian perspective, and this adds to the study of Scripture in several entirely new ways. If you object to the Jewish perspective, this is not the Bible for you. But since Jesus was a practicing Jew, I have always found Jewish commentary, when I could read it as a means to round out my understanding of the Scriptures. For me, the Tanakh translation of the Hebrew Scriptures in 1985 was an added bonus, because I loved this translation always. I give it an easy 5 - stars.

   Essential!
Thousands of years of copious thought are conflated into the rabbinic margin notes. I have never enjoyed the Old Testament - Torah like I have since I began reading it in this translation.

   Open Heart
I am a Christian by birth and upbringing. This book allows me to read and understand the history of man according to a few people. The beauty of its words, read in a historical sense, is extraordinary. It clarifies many questions that I had as a believer in Christianity, it is the same religion. I am now proud to read the written words of a beloved book and understand them. I enjoyed reading this book and continue to read it with an open and loving heart.

The Best Study Bible I have Ever Used
We used it in my Hebrew studies class and was one of the best texts I ever used in such a course. While the pages are thinnish, it stood well when I used pens to take notes. Regardless of religion, I would definitely recommend this to everyone as an amazing educational tool.

   Important and Authoritative
Although I regularly attend synagogue services, it was not until I joined a Bible study group led by one of our associate Rabbis that I realized how little many Jews know about the Bible. This book is leading and is filled with notes and essays by comprehensive scholars. Yes, there are aspects of Judaism that the Bible does not address, such as Jewish mysticism, for example, but there are several very good books devoted to this and other topics. I studied Hebrew at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem last year, so that I can say that the translation is very good. This Bible does take a more scientific approach than some other Jewish study Bibles, so that you might want to keep this in mind when purchasing. Whether you are Jewish or not, if you really want to know how Jews lived in the ancient world or what the Jews today believe, you can not go wrong with this Bible. And the first edition is much better than the second. I think you 'll like it.

   Love the commentary
I particularly appreciate how the commentary highlights competing theories and captures apparent contradictions between passages.

I liked this version since it is kind of a self ...
I am a religious world ''. I liked this version because it is kind of a Jewish study robe for the self-study Bible. The pages are thinner, but I understand the reason why I have to handle them carefully.

Studying Jewish bibles, the names of characters are different ...
Reading other Bibles, the names of characters are different from what we use in Hebrew Bible versions, God has established His work with Israelite's and so it is appropriate to understand the names of characters and places in Jewish context.

   Wonderfully expanded well-thought out commentaries
