Winner of the 2017 Pura Belpr Author Award

Fans of Judy Moody and Clarice Bean will love Juana, the spunky young Colombian girl who stars in this playful, abundantly illustrated new series.

Juana loves many things -- drawing, eating Brussels sprouts, living in Bogot , Colombia, and especially her dog, Lucas, the best amigo ever. She does not love wearing her itchy school uniform, solving math problems, or going to dance class. And she especially does not love learning the English. Why is it so important to learn a language that makes so little sense? But when Juana's abuelos tell her about a special trip they are planning--one that Juana will need to speak English to go on--Juana begins to wonder whether learning the English might be a good use of her time after all. Hilarious, energetic, and utterly relatable, Juana will win over los corazones -- the hearts -- of readers everywhere in her first adventure, presented by namesake Juana Medina.

   Must read.
One of the best books I have read to my children is one of my own. I am from Colombia and the story tells how life is for a kid in Bogota, the value of family and the importance of learning a new language. My children loved it. So entertaining!

   Love this libro
I read this chapter book at night with my 8 yo son. Also adore the fact that the story is set in Colombia, so that he gets to read about a different school and country experience.

   Creative and Engaging
A great story with fun expressions and adjectives. Kept my son engaged and was particularly fun because we had just been to Bogota.

   Kid's book unlike any other
We love Spanglish and the family themes of Disney World and Colombia. Now for the holidays I am buying some of the author's other books because the children loved this book so much!

This is a great book about a girl growing up in Bogotá
This is a great book about a girl growing up in Bogota. My daughter was interested in Juana's school, which is a little different from the US school.

I was actually hoping for a truly bilingual book that would engage my daughter. This book is funny, but its Spanish is limited to a few words thrown in the kind of haphazardly. I know it is about a little Colombian girl in Bogot and that there are some cultural elements, but those are just a few.

   Learn Spanish As You Read!
This is a really nice story on its own, but the fact that it takes place in Colombia is an added plus. It is perfect for those of you who are trying to teach another language to your little ones.
