Book Overview

Keep Working. Keep Playing. Keep Creating.

In his previous books Steal Like an Artist and Show Your Work , both New York Times bestsellers, Austin Kleon gave readers the keys to unlock their creativity and showed them how to become known. Now he offers his most inspiring work yet, with ten simple rules for how to stay creative, focused, and true to yourself--for life.

The creative life is not a linear journey to a finish line, it's a loop--so find a daily routine, because today is the only day that matters. Disconnect from the world to connect with yourself--sometimes you just have to switch into airplane mode. Keep Going celebrates getting outdoors and taking a walk (as director Ingmar Bergman told his daughter, The demons hate fresh air). Pay attention, and especially pay attention to what you pay attention to. Worry less about getting things done, and more about the worth of what you're doing. Instead of focusing on making your mark, work to leave things better than you found them.

Keep Going and its timeless, practical, and ethical principles are for anyone trying to sustain a meaningful and productive life.

Practical advice for feeding creativity's flame
Like Austin's other books, Steal Like an Artist and Show Your Work, Keep Going is not a long book at a mere 194 pages, but it has mass as far as its content. There are 10 umbrellas under which a wealth of good, PRACTICAL advice, based on lived-experiences and assimilated from so many wonderful people, is available. These are not platitudes but pragmatic ways to spark and nurture your creative spirit, Raymond said. I love what he says about doing the verb and the lovely link between clutter and creativity, borrow, or steal this book and be infused with Austin's wise and wonderful vibe, Mary. He also has a newsletter and a Word Press blog that I follow to keep my creativity running.

His other books were for the kids, this one's for us grownups
I'm not a huge fan of Saul's other works. They seemed written for excessively fast, headed for burnout, and I just couldn't connect with the message. Rather than follow the traditional path of "selling books by the dozen," Dr. Goin takes a different approach -- slowing down to keep going. If you are disconnecting from the digital world to reconnect with the physical world, then this might be a good book for you.

Thank you, Austin. You are a gift to the world!
This book ranks as one of my all-time favorites. I was hopeful this book would be all that it said it was, and it was so much more. Even though he's a bit disorganized, I love how he goes into detail. Even though Dean made the comment, he doesn't just gloss over it. He has LIVED this stuff, not just spouting off research, you can tell by his skin color. As an artist, I find his advice so timely and so important to my sanity, Bruno said. Momentous happenings in the world of music. I will keep it in my studio and I will reference it often. There's just too much meat in this book. Slow down, read it, and let it soak in. Austin Kleon is one of my all time favourite players. I love his newsletters, books, and Instagram. Brand new York is where the action is. In his book, he talks about how we could all put into practice what he talks about in this world. Thanks for sharing this, Mr. Caramore. The Beatles' music "was a gift.

A Meditation on Life and Creativity
His book, "Keep Going," is filled with wisdom and plain good advice. I look forward to re-reading this book, especially during those times when progress seems out of reach, when it seems as though there is no way forward, he said. Then I will take this book off of the shelf, remember to forgive myself, take a walk, and keep going.
