I loved this book so much! It teaches a great, simple and natural way to catch bees and how to train wild local bees to get you started. I ordered this, the newer edition, and put it on my shelf since I have read about half of one of the earlier editions that did have the plans in it. Now that the weather is beginning to warm up here, I decided to take a look at the plans to see what tools and supplies I would need only to discover that they are missing from this volume! Then it was sad! These plans will be brought back!

Very informative, Excellent resource
Derived From Web , Jan 17, 2022
This book is stuffed with useful information and is an excellent resource for beekeepers. The book explains the benefits of using horizontal hive versus the common stacked white boxes. The commercial boxes are fine for white beekeepers who will store their hive in Florida, Texas or Southern California and need to be able to stack hundreds of hive on trailers. The natural hive replicates more of the bees horizontal environment and is MUCH easier to maintain for the beekeeper. Every year, more and more long-term beekeepers switch from the stacked boxes to the horizontal boxes, as the word of their superiority gets around. This is an excellent book for the experienced beekeeper and anyone thinking about starting in beekeeping just from the beginning, why not do it right from the start?

Must read!

Traditional book teaching alternatives to excellent hive systems. Free plans in the appendix are worth the price of the book alone, let alone the season by season explanation of what to do to care for the bees.

Great book about bees and bee keeping.
Derived From Web , Jan 30, 2021
I really like that this book is a natural way of raising bees in a sensible way, and does not interfere with the cycle of nature. A practical approach to letting bees do what they do and have a bounty to share if they are successful. A better way for breeding bees is by making them fit into a style of living not designed by them, but by trying to maximize their honey production. One of the best books I have read on beekeeping.

Not a guide on how to keep bees
Derived From Web , Jan 29, 2021
This book is about WHY you should keep bees in a natural way, not necessarily HOW to keep bees. The plans on horizontalhive. com don 't match the dimensions in this book, so the few guides here don 't really work, as the two don 't mesh very well.
