   Knitting Classic
What would the knitting world be without EZ? It is not really for beginners, although I would recommend that every knitter have a copy.

   Knitting Without Tears
This is a great book for a beginner. Unfortunately, I bought it well after I 'd been knitting for a while and found it very simple and not what I needed. However, I have used it to teach others and have found it to be a great reference book for the beginner. It is very much a literature book, though, with a few patterns at the end of the book, one of which I personally used and found quite wonderful and precise.

   Excellent practical advice
The title is a little annoying as I think anyone who cries over knitting should limit themselves to the simplest of crafts like popsicle sticks or coloring books. Elizabeth Zimmerman is a great teacher and her patterns are basic and foundational for a knitter who wants to understand the construction of garments. I liked her advice for those who look at older sweaters and think about how good the stitches are. After many wearings and washings, yours will also look good!

   Invaluable knitting instruction
She takes a very practical approach to knitting, starting with the measurements of the person and then using her instructions to build a basic and direct plan for your garment. If you like to understand what you are doing as opposed to wading blindly through a set of instructions, this is your book. I gave it away and then replaced my copy several times.

   The best knitting book
This book was written by a wonderful woman whose ideas and knowledge have inspired many people, including me. I have never met her, but I feel like she is a very close friend. If you follow her words, you will never go wrong.

   Not for beginners
This is held as a gold standard in learning to think in 3D, but it is really not appropriate for beginners or people who don 't necessarily knit in the first place. May be a good read if you understand basic construction and knitting terms, but want to improve. Frankly, I found this book so confusing that I did cry in fact.

How I learned not to be afraid of "turning a heel"!
I bought this book in the early 1970s, but lost it in a wild fire 3 years ago. I learned how to knit from a left handed grandmother who knit traditional or German style, and never knew how to read a conventional knitting pattern, which left me knitting long straight things, or holding caps. After that book, socks became my favorite to knit. I was also able to weave a beautiful sweater from yarn I had spun myself, as well as an assortment of other items. I love the content of the book ''. That is why I repurchased it. My only complaint is that the first pages are not of the same quality as the actual ones. The paper is much thinner and the printing appears like it has been copied by the photo and then printed on each page. The printing left a huge margin, while if the font had been larger, the page would have filled in a more pleasing image.
