Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

Lead from the Outside is a necessary guide to harnessing the strengths of being an outsider by Stacey Abrams, one of the most prominent black female politicians in the U.S.

Leadership is hard. Convincing others--and often yourself--that you possess the answers and are capable of world-affecting change requires confidence, insight, and sheer bravado. Lead from the Outside is the handbook for outsiders, written with the awareness of the experiences and challenges that hinder anyone who exists beyond the structure of traditional white male power--women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, and millennials ready to make a difference.

In Lead from the Outside, Stacey Abrams argues that knowing your own passion is the key to success, regardless of the scale or target. From launching a company, to starting a day care center for homeless teen moms, to running a successful political campaign, finding what you want to fight for is as critical as knowing how to turn thought into action. Stacey uses her experience and hard-won insights to break down how ambition, fear, money, and failure function in leadership, while offering personal stories that illuminate practical strategies.

Stacey includes exercises to help you hone your skills and realize Read More chevron_right

   Effectiveness and positive results
He said the key is to "avoid complacency" and to "take the time to learn." She is up front and to the point, she is very impressive. Thanks for the book, I'm delighted with my life today and the future.

Wanted to learn more about Stacy following her appearance on the View. She has a very good story to tell, about her upbringing and her determination to make a positive impact on all.

   Gave it away.
It's great to be back with Stacey Abrams, one of my favourite interviewers. A passionate novelist, HarperCollins says she writes romance novels so you think she can tell a story. He was a bit late for the meeting, but I didn't get past the introduction. It reminded me that politicians' books are little more than vanity pieces to raise money. It's just that the story is not the book.

Every black leader needs to read this book
Many books are written about how to be a successful leader, but I found that most of the books are like the education system in this country, a one-size-fits-all approach, he said. Many of the authors of the book failed to address the struggles that minorities face in their journey to success. You cannot fight if you dont know what you are fighting for. The norm says to succeed you need an education and others say you need more than talents, but Stacey Abrams tells you through her experience as a minority leader and her remarkable writing skills exactly what you need to know to succeed as a minority leader. If you were about to give up because what you have read thus far does not seem to be helpful before you throw the towel and give Minority Leader a chance, then you must be wrong.

   Informative & Infuriatingly Relatable.
One night I listened while preparing dinner with my 11yr old one room over, in the dining room. After overhearing me say who she was, he asked me if he could also hear me. A photo made my heart smile. ,,!

Purchase it. Read it. And have a dicscussion on the reality of this century.
Inspiring quotes from Walt Whitman. The book opens your eyes and lets you know that her family is just like yours. In her family, she shared the most intimate family struggles. She is not only bright but she is also very articulate. I bought the audio book and the book separately. It's great to be back home, said Blair. Please share this with your friends and colleagues. She also writes books, although this one is not only educational but also has pdf interactive download or write in the book. She gives you a chance to try new things, writes Frey. Happy Reading!    What a great, great read
The book speaks volumes about positive thinking. What a great read, said Dr. Robert Hemenway, director of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. So empowering and worthwhile, Mr. Rule told us. I have found so many great nuggets of information. The umpire calls him "a clear winner." No one has drawn a direct line between the two women's lives. She gives the reader just enough about her past to move on, but then moves quickly to where she is now. Her determination is inspiring me and others. I would recommend this book to EVERYONE!
