Book Overview

Leonardo is truly a terrible monster-terrible at being a monster that is. No matter how hard he tries, he can't seem to frighten anyone. Determined to succeed, Leonardo sets himself to training and research. Finally, he finds a nervous little boy, and scares the tuna salad out of him But scaring people isn't quite as satisfying as he thought it would be. Leonardo realizes that he might be a terrible, awful monster-but he could be a really good friend.

Another great book by Mo Willems...!
I'm a big, big fan of Mo Willems' last book, Knuffle Bunny, and was equally delighted by this new picture book about a little monster named Leonardo who wants to be scary but only seems cute. After he succeeds in making Sam cry, Leonardo realizes he may have actually hurt the boy's feelings, and tries to make amends. The serious emotional message is underplayed in favor of a playful tone, and will delight small children. I enjoyed this one a lot, and it's frequently requested at storytime, Mrs. Dhaliwal said.

   Fabulous author
I've always loved anything by Mo Willems, and this is by far his best work. A lot of stuff, but mostly jokes. If you have not read the entire series by Willems, or the entire Elephant and Piggie series, you should. With authors like Rowling, you don't have to read stupid, boring stories to your kids.

Very creative and funny. Mo never disappoints
Very creative and witty, Mr. D'Antonio said. We have a lot of his books, including this one, Simon said. Like me, they say.

   Cute
This is a very cute book, Simon says. My 4-year-old grandson absolutely LOVES the book. Each page is illustrated by hand, with the exception of the first one. Very well done." It's a short book, and I recommend it to anyone.

This book is fun every time you read it
Mo Willems did it again. It's just that good book that makes our 3 and 5 year olds giggle every time. It has a monster in it, but I promise it won't scare the tuna salad out of your kids.

   Marker on every page
I have bought many books that were used and never had any issues, Mr. Dhaliwal said. The book was inoperative and unreadable. Each page had a name written on it in huge letters with marker. The seller said they were unable to check the interior but only looked at the outside. The outside is fine, but from the first page until the last it has a large number of small squares. I can't use this with students because it is not how to treat a book and also not a good thing to resell as used good quality material.

Super cute story that is fun to read
It's a great story about friendship and being compassionate, Raymond said. We originally found it at the library and checked it out multiple times before we decided to just buy our own copy.

   Another Mo Willems fav!
In "The Graveyard Book," the monster "could never scare" even the most scaredy cat kid in the world. It's nice to have that choice, not the pigeon or elephant and piggy, Mr. Dhaliwal said. There is also a second book, tentatively titled "The Fall of Sam," which will be published in September.

   You’ll Love Leonardo!
I have no doubt that Willems will do a great job with the Stones. It is the first book I have read to my first-grade students. The show's creator and executive producer, Kirk Douglas, said the message of friendship is not just about money but about people not fitting in. He also added that the book "will have kids of all ages talking about the silly touches."

Super cute and fun to read
This book has become a favorite among children. The kids are quite engaged and it is one I look forward to reading as a parent. This is a great present for kids or grandkids. My 4 and 3 year old love it.
