Book Overview

An unsettling cold case investigation ensnares Cormoran Strike and his partner in a web of dangerous secrets in this #1 New York Times bestseller, the inspiration for HBO Max's acclaimed series C.B. Strike.
When a troubled young man named Billy asks Cormoran Strike to help him investigate a crime he witnessed as a child, the private eye is left deeply troubled. While Billy is obviously mentally distressed and cannot remember many concrete details, there is something sincere about him and his story. But before Strike can question him further, Billy bolts from his office in a panic.
Trying to get to the bottom of Billy's story, Strike and Robin Ellacott -- once his assistant, now a partner in the agency -- set off on a twisting trail that leads them through the backstreets of London, into a secretive inner sanctum within Parliament, and to a beautiful but sinister manor house deep in the countryside. And during this labyrinthine investigation, Strike's own life is far from straightforward. His newfound fame as a private eye means he can no longer operate behind the scenes as he once did. Plus, his relationship with his former assistant is more fraught than it ever has been; Robin is now invaluable to Strike in the business, but their personal relationship is much, much trickier than that. The most epic Robert Galbraith novel yet, Lethal White is addictive, murderous fun for British mystery lovers and crime fiction fans alike (Vox).

   Thin plot, thick book
Painful reading. The plot was too long and convoluted. It seems like the author would rather write a romance novel.

   Disappointed
The first 10% of this story was about Robin's continued unhappy relationship with Matthew, a man who adds nothing to the story except to prevent her from being happy. The beginning of the 2 nd book should have written him out of the series. It would be superfluous to make similar complaints about Charlotte. I wish that Strike had not been made with a prosthesis. The amount of time spent talking about it and the pain he is in is too much and does not make for a good read. There are a lot of characters and ridiculous names. Pringle, Tinky, etc. Really? I can't keep track of all the other characters. I didn't like the ending. It felt like it was being forced. Not my favorite. I have read all of her books. I just hope it's better. The first three Strike books were amazing.

Couldn't bring myself to like it.
This contribution was padded with extraneous detail, endless exposition, and mountains of yawn- inducing dialogue, in stark contrast to the first three offerings. It was difficult for me to care much about Strike or Ellacott because they were emotionally ill- equipped and burdened by personal baggage. I found myself skimming through the final third, something I'm not wont to do if I'm afraid I' ll give up before the final page. How many times must one be reminded Strike is a amputee? I' ll be cautious before buying the next one.

   Finally.
Two days before my birthday, this book was going to be loaded on my kindle. The only complaint I can think of is that I have to wait a year for the next book because I read them as soon as they are released. There is no hint of what's happening here. I enjoyed this one just as much as the 1 st one. The books in this series have been good but I have my favorites. I wish I could write a lengthy review, but I just finished reading Lethal White and am exhausted. I'm more invested in the outcome of Strike and Robin than I should be because I'm hooked on this series. I have to wait for the next one.
