Book Overview

Shadows on the wallNoises down the hallLife doesn't frighten me at all Maya Angelou's brave, defiant poem celebrates the courage within each of us, young and old. From the scary thought of panthers in the park to the unsettling scene of a new classroom, fearsome images are summoned and dispelled by the power of faith in ourselves.Angelou's strong words are matched by the daring vision of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose childlike style reveals the powerful emotions and fanciful imaginings of childhood. Together, Angelou's words and Basquiat's paintings create a place where every child, indeed every person, may experience his or her own fearlessness.Celebrating its successful 25 years in print, this brilliant introduction to poetry and contemporary art features brief, updated biographies of Angelou and Basquiat, an afterword from the editor, and a fresh new look. A selected bibliography of Angelou's books and a selected museum listing of Basquiat's works open the door to further inspiration through the fine arts.

   A beautiful book
What more can we say? It has a beautiful hardcover design filled with beautiful words and a beautiful painting, as well as an introduction to who they are.

   A toddler's applause
The notion was intriguing to me. A book for children contains a bravery poem by Maya Angelou and a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat. The toddler asked to be read Life Doesn't Frighten Me every time he went to bed.

   This is a childs book
I guess it would be a good publication for a young child. I return this book if you want a decent representation of your artwork, the ones already written are too bad.

   Nice book
The book is beautiful, but I am disappointed in the packaging, because I would not want to damage the product.

   Profound
Scary sounds in the night, funny faces, big trucks and cars, skeletons. Things that may be scary to a young person are seen through the eyes of a child who has had a near death experience.

   I'm in love!
I have no words. The book is full of soul. The art of Basquiat and the poetry of Maya Angelou are very different. A great talent is a little jewel.

   Art and Poetry
I bought this book for an adult couple because one of them was a fan of Jean-Basquiat and the other was a poet. I read it before I gave it. It would make for a good book to be read to and shown to children.

I told my son that life doesn't frighten me when he was unsure about going to school. The book is made with quality paper stock and has a good heart.
