Book Overview

Ralph Moody was eight years old in 1906 when his family moved from New Hampshire to a Colorado ranch. Through his eyes we experience the pleasures and perils of ranching there early in the twentieth century. Auctions and roundups, family picnics, irrigation wars, tornadoes and wind storms give authentic color to Little Britches. So do adventures, wonderfully told, that equip Ralph to take his father's place when it becomes necessary. Little Britches was the literary debut of Ralph Moody, who wrote about the adventures of his family in eight glorious books, all available as Bison Books.

History, Family, what Matters most. Fantastic read!
This book is absolutely love! This is highly recommended to everyone. Great look at the American history of the early 1900s on the frontier. Great lessons on living a successful life and working hard on the important things.
   Great series of books
Ralph Moody has written the story of his life and my son was actually called Little Britches, as he was small for a long time and did so many of the things that Ralph Moody did! Read this story, plus many other books by Moodys to my family growing up and they loved it. Also of interest to the residents of local nursing homes. Everyone loved it and couldn t wait for me to get back and start the next chapter!
It was read to me loud when I was 10... I remember that I LOVED the stories absolutely. For years after, I could not remember the name of the book or anything besides the fact that I loved it. Now you find yourself. Almost 10 years later, I finally find it! More than excited to read this series again.
   Wonderful for the whole family
The fantastic Britches is a little book. It brings the reader back to Colorado in the early 1900s and a family who worked hard as they struggled to establish their ranch. This is the first book in a series and once you start reading, you won t want to stop. Ralph learns a lot of lessons the hard way about life. The parenting skills of his father lead Ralph gently to make the right choices. There are horses, cowboys and a water rights foued that provide excitement as well as many warm family moments.
   Wonderful Book About Life
I bought this book for my 11yo daughter to read. As an adult, it gave me things to think about and I am sure that my daughter will also find lessons and perspectives that she can apply now and in the future to her life.
   Great story with powerful lessons!
From reading this book, much can be gained. Our family loved them. It was emotionally challenging material ; death at various points is confronted.
This is the beautiful true story of growing up and gaining responsibility
Ralph Moody shares his stories of surviving as a young boy in extremely difficult situations and inspires you to be better than you know you can. The book touches on the themes of honesty, leadership, courage and kindness. This is a great book for all ages, but children can really identify with the struggles and successes. The only reason I say 7 instead of 5 is because of the intensity of some of the sad events that occur. This is a keeper, not a loan from the library. I suggest that you read it and get it.    It's a must-read
Well, Ok : Wow. How did I read this book as a kid ever again? This book is absolutely beautiful . It is located along the lines of Little House on the Prairie, from a boy's perspective. It made us cry and laugh, and we could hardly put it down. It is a must-read for anyone who is interested in learning anything about American history and culture.
   Wonderful story!
Ralph Moody tells wonderful stories about his family's experiences in farming out in Colorado in the early 20th century, although the West won, it was still a frontier. His writing is so absorbing that I bought the other 7 books of this series just to find out what happened to him and his family.
Ralph Moody is an excellent autobiographer.
Moody was an exemplary man with a good memory of pivotal moments in his life and the lessons he learned from his parents. He was particularly proud of his father. He is hard-earned about his feelings as a child and his earnest attempts to have his own way and the lessons that life is more than just having your own way. I was reading this book and several other Moody books to my children in the hope that they would understand this same principle. As they became older, they would quote me some of the lessons they learned from Moody, that I was obviously not applicable to my own circumstance.
