Book Overview

The instant New York Times bestseller
From the author of Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History comes the highly anticipated follow-up, a beautifully illustrated collectible detailing the lives of women creators around the world.

Featuring the true stories of 35 women creators, ranging from writers to inventors, artists to scientists, Little Dreamers: Visionary Women Around the World inspires as it educates. Readers will meet trailblazing women like Mary Blair, an American modernist painter who had a major influence on how color was used in early animated films, actor/inventor Hedy Lamarr, environmental activist Wangari Maathai, architect Zaha Hadid, filmmaker Maya Deren, and physicist Chien-Shiung Wu. Some names are known, some are not, but all of the women had a lasting effect on the fields they worked in.

The charming, information-filled full-color spreads show the Dreamers as both accessible and aspirational so readers know they, too, can grow up to do something amazing.

   SHEDS LIGHT ON LESSER-KNOWN LEADERS
There are so many contributors to our America, but I feel that we hear about the same leaders repeatedly. There are so many unsung heroes that go unheralded and that deserve to be remembered and spoken about, he said. I think this book does a wonderful job enlightening us on the lesser known, but noteworthy women that have preceded us, he said.

   Informative and inspiring
The book is great with lots of amazing women, Raymond said. Only one reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I think the reading ages start at 8 but I think it's a bit more advanced. There are words in here that are beyond a second grader's comprehension so I am doing a lot of explaining when we read together.

It has a lot of stories, but it is very wordy...
I was trying to start reading about some amazing woman to my son but he is only 2 and this is way to wordy for him. Young readers, I think it will be great when he is older and I can read by myself.

   Leaders not well known
Probably a good book, but I did not recognize any of the women leaders in it. I would have liked to have seen the name of the leaders before I purchased so I didn't have to go through the return process. Going to return and order "Herstory" which is also about women leaders but more of the well known ones discussed in school and it shows pics of the actual women.

   Amazing and inspiring book
I love the people who she has chosen to highlight, Tunick said. It was the perfect present for my neice when she had a daughter. You want to buy it in hardback if at all possible because the cover is so soft and feels so good in the hand, he said.

   For older girls
Very cute book, beautifully illustrated by Barbara Hollingworth. It doesn't read like a story, it's more informative.

   Love! Girl power!
New York Times best-selling author Michael Green's "The Dark Knight" trilogy was also a hit. It's important for younger kids to have an understanding of both genders, he said. I really like that this book shows how powerful women from different backgrounds can inspire and educate kids, ages 6 to 12, about the importance of education, she said. It has many works for my 2-3 year old student even though the book recommend it from 2-5 year old. But I can shorten sentences to fit the age appropriation until there's no longer room for error. Overall, I'm very happy with the book.

   Inspiring
In the video, Fatima laments, "Trying to brainwash my little cousins into being feminists." It seemed like a good way to start, Mr. Rule told the judge. So many amazing stories and great illustration, Mr. D. Cowger said.

   Rebel Girls is Better
My daughter absolutely loves the Rebel Girls series, after which this book is clearly based. She didn't find the information engaging.

If I could give 10 stars I would
This book is by far the best. It's also the first book to be illustrated by children's book illustrator Pauley. It's great for children and adults alike. My 2 1/2 year old loved seeing these two women and hearing what they did. We'll read more of the book when he gets older but this is a great read for all ages. I'm very impressed with the product.
