   Perfect Gift for Kids
I ordered a few books from this author. ESPECIALLY in black and brown homes, representation matters. It is also important for NON Black or Brown to expose their children to the amazing contributions that Black people have made throughout history and teach them to teach.
   Great book for boys
Love the color and drawings. I now have both books. I started with little leaders '' for my daughter and needed something to help my son inspire, and was so glad that I came across this book.
Building knowledge of the next generation
This is a wonderful book to inform, inspire and increase the knowledge of young people about black history. It is a great way to encourage them to be leaders in their lives.
Book is paperback - not hardback!
There is nothing wrong with the books, but I subscribed to the Amazon Book Box for my grandson, and he is expected to receive 2 hardcover books or 4 other books. He received only 2 paperbacks - not worth the price of the subscription. It's too bad because I really wanted him to have a gift from me every few months and this seemed like a good idea. This particular book will be good for him when he is a little older -- he turned 6 just like 6.
   A great history lesson
We enjoy reading through this book, one person at a time. It is part of the home school curriculum for the preschool. It is probably a little over my children's heads so far, but I hope they grow up knowing the wonderful work of those who have gone before them and also knowing what they may be capable of. It is a pretty dense read for important, but great consolidated stories to introduce little people from history along with their achievements.
I feel crazy bc, because no one else has mentioned it, but I am confused about what age group this book is appropriate for. The illustrations are advanced and made me believe that it would be appropriate for my 6 year old, who is a cute reader. However, when I went through it, I found a reference to “sexuality ”, which I do not find appropriate terminology for young children. But if the book is meant for children old enough to understand sexuality, the illustrations seem childish. I'm disappointed bc, I don 't feel like I can add this one to my children's collection, which is too bad. I also agree with others that the choice of those represented seemed a little off the mark.
Her choice of people was kind of disappointing
My children really enjoyed the book Little Leaders '' about black women, so I ordered this version for my son. I disagreed strongly with her choice of who to feature in this book, and I disagreed strongly with her choice of who to present in this book. I was so angry about it that I ended up returning it, which is a shame because it is such a cute little book.
Depicting legends while inspiring future legends
I love this book ''. Concise, yet detailed and informative about each individual. As an African American studies graduate and advocate, I leave this book propped in my school counseling office as a resource for children to see just what ingenuity, passion and perseverance can do. With the hopes of instilling a legend in them that they can be a legend too. I love that it has a legend outline in the background so that they can create their own legend. It reads to them to create a legend not pictured in the book, as there are so many that not All could possibly be included. I use it for students to read themselves as legends and how they want to present their story to others.
   Great Book!
I bought this book after I found out that my son was not learning at school about black history. I believe it is important for my son to see successful black men throughout history. This is a perfect book for children to learn about black men in history, about white men. And I love the title Little Legends. And I also love the title Little Legends. Each night my son and I are reading about a little legend.
   Amazing book about amazing men.
I have a few books by Vashti Harrison : I have done one for women and one for black women that I love, so I was hoping for one of the black men. This book is just as awesome as the others. She has carefully researched some wonderful black men who have had an impact on our society and shares the information with beautiful drawings of each man. It shares knowledge and promotes empathy, both of which are very necessary in this world. I want the kids at our elementary school to see themselves in what they read and this format is sure to touch hearts.
