Helps us curb tantrums

Engaging pictures, easy to grasp concepts. My 18 month old loves this book, and it has been helpful in calming tempers when she starts to get upset, I say that Little Monkey is having a difficult time to communicate that I understand that she is frustrated. I then say Calm Down, Little Monkey and make suggestions to help her control her emotions. Teaches Self Soothing - Highly Recommend
Derived From Web , Apr 20, 2022
My daughter has SPD and a high-spirited nature. She gets so worked up when she has to do something she doesn't want, like go to bed or share a toy, that she makes herself sick. She loved the colors and pictures in the book and understood the story immediately. When she is upset now, I say calm down, little monkey. She takes a deep breath and does it actually. It's amazing. I highly recommend this book for anyone with kids who have trouble soothing themselves.

Really great book to help with emotional regulation
Derived From Web , Aug 22, 2021
My 2.5 year old has had a very difficult time regulating his emotions at school and at home. He gets very angry and has been unprovoked from hitting and biting. Calms Down was one of several books I purchased to teach him some methods to calm down. He has a very short attention span and this book was absolutely perfect because each page has only about 1-2 sentences. The illustrations are adorable and my son remembers the monkey dropping his ice cream cone and talking about it daily...I think this book has really made an impact because when he gets mad now I just reference the monkey and the ice cream and tell him to take some deep breaths and that seems to take the edge off. If you have a little one with a short attention span or trouble with emotional regulation, this book is a great choice... very to the point and illustrations are bright and colorful. Highly recommended. Highly recommended.

It’s never smart to tell an uncalm person (or monkey) to “calm downâ€
Derived From Web , Aug 4, 2021
It is useful to teach the tiny humans different coping mechanisms for how to deal with frustration, anger, and those overwhelming moments. This isn 't the book to do it just. Go tell an angry monkey to calm down and see what happens next! Probably the same meltdown that you will witness with an upset little human. Keep in mind... Keep looking...

Great for reminders during the tantrum.
Derived From Web , May 10, 2021
We read it daily. We talk about it when there is trouble brewing and can be a good idea to calm like a little monkey. We also have some of our own items that work well in our Meltdown sensory bag and remind him that when he is upset like a little monkey, the other items can be used.

Good VERY SIMPLE book, not for everyone
Derived From Web , May 12, 2020
I considered getting this for my little toddlers several months ago... They've just turned three and two and the meltdowns were plentiful. My older son resisted taking a deep breath whenever I would say it. If you're hoping that this book will be a magical solver... that is highly debatable. At first, my kids were not even interested in it, it doesn 't have much of a story, but it was my older son who came back to it and now we are able to use it for coaching through some emotional stuff. Plus I made a little snuggly reading corner with them so that when we are really having a meltdown, we can sit and read the books and this has actually helped dramatically. The use of the book with other techniques is really helpful, but we do enjoy it overall.
