I hope more people hear about this book, Powell said. The prose is not rhymed, but the cadence is soothing. I love how this story celebrates the wonder of night in the forest. The stars are celebrated for their quiet beauty. Perhaps this story will go some way to eroding the traditional fear of the dark among many kids. It's perfect for bedtime stories, too. It's great to be back reading it to my daughter, probably she doesn't understand but likes looking at the illustrations,and the story is relaxing rather than stimulating compared to other happy fun kids books which seem more suited to the day! Highly recommend.

It took a little while to grow on us, but we made it through. We read a lot of either silly Sandra Boynton books or serious, meaningful books, like The night you were born, like Harper's. This one doesn't have a rhyming poem style to it, or a really deep message, Sosa said. It's just all around cute and fun, Tunick said. It was mostly a couple of pages that really got me into the book. The book follows the adventures of a young boy who goes on a quest to find his owl's "night out." The story is just the right length for my 2 1/2 year old and I. Each night I let him choose between two or three books to read before bed. He picked this one about half the time because it was cheaper. It's just that I don't dread it like others. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

We just got this book today and he's just blown away by it. It's different from all the books we've read together. Dark colors are appealing to him, I think. The story is charming and the illustrations are exceptional, Morgenthau said. This would make a great present for your little one's library.
