Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

Little Red Hen is a time-tested cautionary tale about how we reap what we sow. When the hen asks a cat, dog, and mouse for help planting some wheat, she gets no takers: 'Not I ' said the cat. 'Not I ' said the dog. 'Not I ' said the mouse. They won't water, cut, or grind the wheat . . . or help bake a cake with it, either. So guess who eats the cake by herself in the end? Caldecott Honor artist Paul Galdone's delightfully detailed ink and wash illustrations--packed with charming details--add plenty of sly humor to the well-loved story that not only offers a sage message but also shows children what it takes to make a cake from the ground up

Paul Galdone's illustrations are so delightful, I like to choose the hardcover versions so that these books will last. He has illustrated many of the children's classic stories _ and they are available in hard cover and are similar in size, so when presented together, make a nice set. The parents of the babies have been pleased with the library, the librarians said. Amazon has a fine selection of Mr. Galdone's books which made it very easy to purchase all seven or eight books in one place. Thanks to Paul Galdone for these attractive little books and also to Amazon for making them available.
   hate writing these reviews
The work is beautiful, said Jackson. The ending of the story would not come as a surprise to those who have followed it for years.
Formatting for the Kindle is terrible!
I was so disappointed with the formatting of the book. There was no way my kinders could read this themselves as I had a difficult time doing so. The complete set of Diaries is available on Amazon. com. If you are looking for a new car, this is the one for you.
   Daughters favorite book
It was the first book she ever memorized and would pretend to read. I would stop reading g with my finger on the parts she knew really well and then she would "read" with my finger, I truly believe she developed her love of reading from this book! As she got older we would continue doing that, where she would read. She is having her first baby now and the one book she wanted at her Book baby shower was this book signed by her grandma because this was also their favourite book to read! It has an awesome morale at the end which I won't read children's books without one!
   Check book for damage
The second order arrived damaged and the third was delivered late. Be sure to check the pages for returns because Amazon has been shipping a lot lately. Overall the book is well made and a true classic. She's still making bread, but cake is fine, she said.
   Can't go wrong!
No matter how many times I've read this book, I always enjoy the story hard work is its own reward! The difference is that the story is almost identical. No reason to change a perfectly good story, Gillian said. Highly recommend.
   A Great Surprise
I did not expect much from this book, but it was a great surprise. The repetitions invite the children to join in.
   Hen no longer bakes bread!
Handicrafting 3 was ordered as a present, but it was also given as a replacement for an earlier version. This version is well drawn but the story has been changed in that the hen bakes a cake as opposed to bread, the staff of life. The book's description of the second book, "The Black Dahlia," said that it was "a tragic parable in the Christian faith about love and betrayal." It seems to me that the original bakers thought it would appeal, but not bread. I'd strongly prefer a similar low price point version of Khoshaba's bread, with a slightly more appealing (and, I'm not saying expensive) illustration.
   Story of my life!!!!
This story is seriously the story of my life, Raymond said. Every Parent should know this book by now. The movie teaches a valuable lesson we all should have imbedded in our brains. Unfortunately not everyone on the face of the earth understands this common sense of life, Margaret says. Now as a father, uncle and grown up I find it to be quite a ironic moment when I think about the times in my life when I refer to this book to the younger people in my life. It amazes me how many people actually know what I am talking about and are quick to change their response and actually get up and help!
