Had to buy it, love it even more than I thought I would.

As a seminarian, the full 4-volume set of the liturgy of the Hours is required, while I had just used Christian prayer before. The office of readings has now become my favorite time of the day! There is such a wealth of knowledge and practical wisdom contained in these texts, that they have already profoundly influenced my spiritual life, even in the week I have been praying with them! One of the best purchases I ever made.

A Beautiful Set of Books and a powerful prayer

What a beautiful set! The imitation leather is clean and durable, and is bound well. The books come with insert cards that you can use if you need them in the appropriate book for the appropriate time of year. I don 't like the inserts can fall out while I pray, so I put just a ribbon where the repeated passages are. I've used a variety of offices -- The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin, Shorter Book of Christian Prayer, all available apps on my mobile phone or tablet, but I wanted to use the books as a backup and I am glad I purchased them. I am not going to lie, the Liturgy of the Hours can be difficult to learn, but the fruits you receive from the praise you give and the meditations on our Lord are immense. If you are prepared to deepen your prayer life and relationship with God, it is time to say the Liturgy of the Hours.

Great edition for this four-volume product, prayed by many. For older eyes, print is friendly. Price was quite reasonable, will need a revision for additional saints and possible translation of Bible texts if this is coming.

A post Vatican II formulation of prayers intended to meet the needs of the Novus Ordo faithful. Here you have another product of Msgr Annibale Bugnini, Father of the New Mass, whose name is in the front pages. Those within the Novus Ordo faith will be content. I recommend Roman Catholics look elsewhere, such as the Baronius Press edition of the Roman Breviary or the Benedictine Monastic Diurnal, which is less expensive, but does not include Matins.

Excellent Resource for Catholics Looking to Deepen Their Prayer Experience

It is an obligation of Catholic clergy to pray the liturgy of the hours each day and it is recommended that the laity also pray the hours, at least in part. These books are the breviary, for use in holy orders by priests and others to pray the hours. I only recently started, but am finding it very rewarding. It is somewhat complicated to find your way around in the books, however, even with the St Joseph Guide, which comes with the set. I have used a guide which can be found online at the Rosary Shop. It can be downloaded for free as a. pdf file or purchased in book form. It also includes an audio CD for those who wish to learn to do the chants.

After much deliberation, I went and changed from the single volume litany of the Hours to the four volume litany of the Hours. I am thrilled with this item and want to include some photos to clear up some confusion about what is included in the purchase. I love the size and it seems to me much more complicated than the single volume. It is still somewhat difficult, but on most days much more straightforward.
