Book Overview

Gifted children and adults are often misunderstood. Their excitement is viewed as excessive, their high energy as hyperactivity, their persistence as nagging, their imagination as not paying attention, their passion as being disruptive, their strong emotions and sensitivity as immaturity, and their creativity and self-directedness as oppositional. This book describes these overexcitabilities, as well as strategies for dealing with children and adults who experience them. It also provides essential information on Dabrowski's Theory of Positive Disintegration. Learn practical methods for nurturing sensitivity, intensity, perfectionism, and much more.

This book is pretty cool if you and/or loved ones
This book is pretty cool if you and or loved ones, family and friends are very bright and or creative, but at some point, someone felt very emotional, whether it was just a surprisingly strong emotional reaction to something or a very intense and sensitive person. I had no idea that this quality is normal in people who are exceptionally bright and creative and not just crazy women. It can provide some insight and context to those who don 't know.

I highly recommend this book those who would describe themselves in this ...
I feel like I am only 13 of the way through this book, and I am completely moved by the overall message of it. As someone who bought this book to help me understand, this is by far the book that describes my most intense experiences, and I read a LOT. This information is very helpful for parents, clinicians and especially those who would describe themselves as intense. As a result of reading this book, I came to a whole new level of acceptance with myself. A few nights ago, I actually went to sleep and hugged this book to my heart. Thank you, Susie Daniels and others who have helped in this heartfelt endeavor, for conveying this rare, important and profoundly misinterpreted description of human experience skillfully and lovingly. I recommend that book to those who would describe themselves in this way. Also, write more, Ms. Daniels. I am your biggest supporter. Lisa makes her love with Love.

   Excellent for everyone
This book is absolutely amazing! I recommend it for most people. It can help you understand yourself or be your really smart friend. I wish I had read it first, when it was recommended years ago. The limited person has as many struggles as the gifted person - just different. It is key to know the awareness.

   An Immeasurable Resource
This book has been a revelation for many. I live in the second gifted family in my life, and I wish I had this book growing up ; it would have made a difference. Now with my kids we discuss selections together and read because we each identify more or less strongly with different parts. It helps give us better words to talk about what we are feeling and how to move forward. I plan to share this with my siblings and my gifted program coordinators my children.

Excellent resource for explaing the multifaceted aspects of giftedness
This book I found to be the best resource I have found to date to help communicate the multifaceted aspects of living with giftedness. Not only does it resonate with me as an adult, but I have used it to help communicate with my sons teachers to better understand and appreciate his differing needs due to his psychomotor and emotional intensity. I can not recomend it enough.

   VERY INSIGHTFUL
Great book to get into the topic without prior medical-psychological knowledge. Many of substance and a very moderate level of stories to illustrate the takeaways. Definitely an intense book.

Wait. How did stories about me get in this book?
You might purchase this book, as I did in an attempt to parent your intensely gifted child better and to provide him a framework to understand himself. However, don 't be surprised if you come away with an entirely new lens for understanding your own childhood experiences. In my case it turns out that the intense little apple does not fall far from the intense little tree and this book changed my whole way of looking at my past, present and future self.
