   Agatha Christie was a gift to the mystery genre
There is a wonderful mystery! I was stumped yet again, despite all the clues being scattered around. I take solace in the fact that Poirot was tricked this time, and that his revenge on one of the people who tried to trick him made me smile. How can you commit a crime when you have a perfect alibi? Is it possible that you can't... or can you? Lady Edgeware is thought to be the prime suspect in her husband's death. She was at a party at the time of the murder. Did she do it?

   You won't guess
It was fun to get a feel for English society. The rancor between Japp and Hastings was the only change that was not positive. I thought Japp didn't understand Poirot but at least he respected his methods. The ending is unexpected.

I said in the review that I liked the story and would have given it more stars, except for the racist and prejudiced comments made by the characters. I don't know if that's how Christie felt at the time or if it's just her characters' point of view. My enjoyment of a good story was affected by it.

I don't mind a challenge, but too many red herrings can be hard to understand. The story could have been told with more characters.

   A fine Poirot Novel
Edgeware is a great Poirot novel, with a great 1930's London atmosphere, and a really nice mystery puzzle and solution. In this novel, the Poirot- Hastings relationship is on top form.

   Christie at Her Best
What do you think about Agatha Christie that hasn't been said before? She is the Queen of Crime and will never lose that title. Lord Edgware dies is an example of why that is. Interesting characters, engaging plot, and the incomparable detective, Hercule Poirot. This is a great choice for classic mystery lovers. When CSI took a back seat to psychology and intuition, it was an excellent example of the golden age of mystery stories. The detective used his wits to solve a crime, and there is no grey cells better for that than Poirot. Agatha Christie is the best chronicler of those cases!
