Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

Millions of Christians have struggled with how to reconcile God's love and God's judgment: Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this good news?

Troubling questions--so troubling that many have lost their faith because of them. Others only whisper the questions to themselves, fearing or being taught that they might lose their faith and their church if they ask them out loud.

But what if these questions trouble us for good reason? What if the story of heaven and hell we have been taught is not, in fact, what the Bible teaches? What if what Jesus meant by heaven, hell, and salvation are very different from how we have come to understand them?

What if it is God who wants us to face these questions?

Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance. The result is the discovery that the good news is much, much better than we ever imagined.

Love wins.

Excellent primer on an embracing theology.
This book is deep and careful to read, yet evokes easy thought. Mr. Bell is well-versed in biblical studies, makes his ideas accessible and presents an excellent depiction of history and thought in the Judeo-Christian tradition. Now our life is. Heaven or the environment of godly living is what we make.

   Thought provoking.
Rob Bell brings interesting and provocative thoughts up. We dissected this book during our study group at the church over the course of many weeks. Rob Bell raises lots of questions and makes you take a new light on things. In this book, Heaven, Hell, Innies and Outies and a whole lot more are questioned and answered. I thought the book was interesting, but I have to admit that I grew tired of the writing style. Rob Bell often writes in short choppy sentences, which is reminiscent of his Nooma videos. It is an effective way to speak for emphasis in a video, but for me it became tedious. That is not to say that his points were not interesting ; they were. Overall, I enjoyed the book and I agree with many of the points he makes. Lets indeed win love.

Excellent book. There's a lot of interesting insights into Christianity and challenging thoughts on Heaven and Hell.
I like how he says that there isn 't a Christian way to be a right-winger. I think I read this book again because there is so much good stuff that you can 't get all in one reading.

Take time and think about what he has to say
Amazing that this person was thrown out of the church by those who did not agree with his thoughts. Some pretty crude comments about Rob have inspired me to read this book. Very Glad I read it ''. You don 't. T have to agree, but if you are so close minded about God, then for this matter you are the problem, not Rob or other Christians.

but it says what needs so desperately to be said right now--that God isn't like all of us
It is a little simplistic, but it says what now needs so desperately to be said right-that God is not like all of us caught in petty fights, prejudiced against those with darker skin or less money. I needed to read it, though... and the book lists other good books, leading me to a length of interesting and compassionate literature to remind us that God loves us all... and reminds me that it is my job to be the same.

I wish he was right, but when I read the Scriptures over and over again, I just don 't see this book to align with the truth in the Scriptures. I am reading Francis Chan's Erasing Hell next, and i hope it will redeem this book's misconceptions of the Bible.

Love Actually Dos Win and Love Heals
I came to a place in my life where I was so miserable, so lost and in so much pain that I finally turned to God and said : I give up Lord, I turn over my life and my will to you. Since then, my life has changed for the better. This book will help you find the courage to change, don 't waste this opportunity.
