Book Overview

Madeline visits Rome

The Paris skies are gray, so Miss Clavel and the twelve little girls are leaving for brighter weather---spring in Rome. Rome has wonderful sights to see and delicious things to eat, but Madeline also finds an unexpected adventure, involving a thief, a chase, and many, many cats. The first all-new Madeline book in close to fifty years combines a lively story with luminous gouache and watercolor illustrations. Beloved Madeline returns, as brave and irrepressible as ever

Otherwise it is a nice book.
My Madeline loves fountains and statues and has another grand daughter, the Book of Madeline. I was taken back to learn that it was about stealing. Otherwise, it is a beautiful book.

   I enjoyed this book
I enjoyed this book and felt like the story and art stayed true to the original. If you don 't like it, it is probably because you are a fascist.

The Kids of Foster City, Ca.
I was asked to join a first grade class that consisted of 20 six-year-old boys and girls. I had lived in Rome for several years, so that the book John Bemelmans Marciano Madeline And The Cats of Rome appealed to me. It is a very well executed work with wonderful art work, which is true to the city. The children loved it and had many questions and opinions about the city and cats. After reading the story, they all seemed to enjoy it thoroughly and wanted to talk about it. For me it was a very rewarding experience to see children enjoying themselves being transported to a beautiful place with an exciting story about other children and the famous cats of Rome. I award it an AAA + Sincerely, John Ryckman, San Francisco, Ca.

   A good cat story
The author is a grandson of Ludwig Bemelmans and Caries in the like tradition. A very positive story for young people.

   Heavily soiled
The side cover had a yellowbrown film that one could see and feel. Paid for my 4 year old granddaughter. Devastated very much.
