This book really feels like a "Magic Key"
I have tried to learn Spanish for a while and found the process frustrating. This book feels really like a magic key. Previously confusing things now make sense. Finally, I am able to speak with my husband at home without him wondering what I am trying to say in the world. It is an easy read, well organized, makes the information digestible without being too slow or boring. Both writing the exercises loud and saying them help, but DO them definitely. It may seem hard to learn a language from a book without audio, but saying them aloud helps a lot and she addresses phonetics immediately, so there is no confusion.

I have twelve years' experience with this book. Listen to me!
I have studied several other methods of learning Spanish and have found Madrigal to be truly a magic key to Spanish. As an American-Spanish speaker I did not start studying Madrigal until I was 57 years-old, when it became imperative that I speak and understand Spanish-American. For twelve years, I have spoken Spanish. Don 't let anyone tell you, including yourself, that you're too old to learn. It was done by me. I recently purchased two more copies of this book because I am using Madrigal to teach English to children in my Spanish-speaking community! I can make Madrigal's magic work in both directions, EnglishSpanish and Spanish - English. I can 't recommend this book highly enough if you speak English or Spanish and want to learn the other language.

   Great book even if dated
This is a great book for learning Spanish. To learn a foreign language, you need several resources, including a grammar book, a phrase book and software. But this book gives you a large amount of vocabulary and drills you effectively. Read through it two or three times -- out loud -- and you will gain many words and understand a lot more. It is old, so there are not words about using computers or the Internet, but it is still a great resource if you recognize that you will need several resources.

   Truly a magic key
I love Madrigal's books. I love Madrigal's. The way she puts the language together and associates to English helps me feel more successful in my language learning. I combine her written works with Michel Thomas audio-learning with Michel Thomas.

   Back it a successful time
In the 70s, I met m. madrigal ; a group of us studied in her apartment in Greenwich Village once a week. Then review the lesson and have conversation for an hour. I have lost my fluency over the last 10 years due to a lack of use, but now I need it for my new job. So, back to a simple yet effective system and bringing back some of Margarita's fine memories. She was a good teacher, but she was also quite the character. We used this very book, so that using a familiar will help me a lot, I am sure.

Espanol in a hurry -- the easy way...
The book by Madrigal is a classic, still in print for many years, and it is easy to see why her approach to learning the language is intuitive and quite possibly in stark contrast to how you might have learned a foreign language at school. While I can 't describe it as a Page Turner '', I can tell you that it is self-motivating once you pick it up and get started working through the chapters. You learn very quickly how many Spanish words are quite similar to their English equivalents, thereby gaining the knowledge that you already have a good vocabulary of Spanish words in your vocabulary. My wife and I use the book together with the Rosetta Stone, but Madrigal is quite a bit more affordable than the latter.

   Great book
This book is ordered such that the most important topics are first covered. I use this book together with the SpanishDict app and Youtube videos (such as Why Not Spanish Series with Listening Exercises ).

   Very good book
Other than I don 't like the magic in the title, this is an awesome book! Not unique and has a boring way of teaching. Rather than starting with the present tense, it focuses on the past tense with much more useful.
