Mandy, the first children's novel ever written by the beloved star of Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, Julie Andrews, is a modern classic.

Mandy, a ten-year-old orphan, dreams of a place to call her own. Escaping over the orphanage wall to explore the outside world, Mandy discovers a tiny deserted cottage in the woods. All through the spring, summer, and fall, Mandy works to make it truly hers. Sometimes she borrows things she needs from the orphanage. Sometimes, to guard her secret, she even lies. Then, one stormy night at the cottage, Mandy gets sick, and no one knows how to find her--except a special friend she didn't know she had.

This is the perfect book for ten-year-old girls who love tiny houses and stories filled with hope.

Named a daughter after this book!
It remains my favorite book from childhood. I first read MANDY as a girl and was completely enchanted by the writing and the style of the story. A little girl making a secret place of her own intrigued me, as did the problems that Mandy was trying to keep her prize to herself. The ending was very touching, Winslet said. I read that book over and over until it was completely worn out. Years later as a mother, I named a daughter after the book character, and when she was old enough, gifted her with a copy of the book. I recently bought yet another copy for my youngest, who couldn't WAIT to get it in the mail after I read the sample pages out loud.
The ultimate book for ten-year-old girls.
As a ten-year-old on Christmas, this was the very best gift I received and has remained a source of joy for me for my entire life. I honestly don't think there's a better story for girls. A young orphan--a sensitive soul-climbs a high wall, finds an enchanted cottage and makes it into her own little home. She falls ill, is saved by a handsome stranger on a great horse, and finds herself adopted by a wonderful family. It doesn't get better than this. I know the American girl thing is all the rage now, but this is a book that touches the soul in profound and memorable ways.
Much better than "The Secret Garden"
This book reminds me a lot of The Secret Garden without being preachy or overly descriptive. My two daughters absolutely love this book and consider it one of their favorites.
   Luv it!
I have fallen in love with this book so much! It's the kind of book that you read over and over again. I have already read it 13 times and still want to read it again. It's great to be back home, said Jennette, "I recommend it to everyone."

   I loved this book!
I read this book when I was about 10 years old. It took me to a happy place, Raymond said. I wish I could have my own little cottage all for myself, she said.
This book is amazing for any young girl to read. It was a great read, and I had to get it for my niece.
Great read for a young girl!
My 9 year old daughter loved it. We are always on the hunt for good books with good moral content, he said. My daughter liked that she was a nice girl with a sense of adventure. She would highly recommend this book to others. This book was recommended to us by my sis-in-law that remembered it being one of her childhood favorites.
Mandy an enjoyable read for adults and children
An enjoyable read for adults and children alike. And Instagram her that I was told this was her inspiration for her whole life, too. So I had to order the book and see what it was all about, it was an adorable read, Morgenthau said. Very enjoyable read to my children.
