Book Overview

The complete 3-book historical Christian fiction series by the New York Times bestselling author of Redeeming Love and The Masterpiece.

Travel to first-century Rome in this classic series and discover what has inspired millions of readers worldwide. The three books in the Mark of the Lion series are packaged in a giftable boxed set.

A Voice in the Wind, the first book in the trilogy, introduces readers to Hadassah, a young Jewish girl captured and sold into slavery but still holding firm to her faith in God. Though torn by her love for a handsome aristocrat, Hadassah becomes a shining beacon of light in the darkness and depravity around her.

In An Echo in the Darkness, Marcus, a wealthy Roman aristocrat touched by Hadassah's sincere belief, begins to wonder if there's more to this life. As he continues to search for meaning and faith, he is led by a whispering voice from the past that could set him free from the darkness of his soul.

The trilogy concludes with As Sure as the Dawn, which follows Atretes, the high chief of a Germanic tribe who fought as a gladiator and won his freedom. As Atretes sets out to return home with his infant son, only one thing stands in his way: Rizpah, a Christian widow who has cared for the baby since his birth.

Hadassah had a faith and a confidence in Gods love that gave her the ability to serve and love ...
I have read all the books in the Mark of the Lion Collection and will never forget the experience. It was an experience, a life-changing experience. Yes, I still talk about it with my husband. Her relationship with Julia, Marcus and their family was profound, as it eventually was on all those God put in her life, she said. She had a faith and a confidence in God that gave her the ability to serve and love in the most difficult circumstances. Only Rivers could weave these characters into a story that you cannot put down, and at the same time be a life changing experience for you too.

   Absolutely amazing!!
This book was one recommended to me by many friends over the years but I never wanted to start because it was too long and looked more like a gladiator story from the outside. It's so glad I picked it up and started it because I couldn't put it down! It does have some gladiators, but it transforms the reader to a time when the reader is unfamiliar to us and helps us to live with the characters. Even though the characters were fictional, the relationships were real and relatable. You outdid yourself, Rivers said in an interview. You taught me so much about the era and about people, he said. Many of the situations in the book have happened to me in my lifetime. Some of our church sermons went along with yours in the book. He added that it was "like our God." Berkshire Hathaway made a profit of $1.7 billion last year alone, its best performance.

One of the best series I have ever read!!!
She took me back in time to when the State of Israel was established. Her character development is exceptional. I fell in love with every single one of them. Their growth is amazing, Morgenthau said. He also tells us how God through Jesus changes them. The prayers from the characters felt so real, I began to pray. In a generous gesture of compassion, McCartney writes, "I cried in places of this book." The main theme throughout the series was Seek and Ye Shall Find and Don't put limits on God, he wrote. Please, if you have not read the first book, I strongly encourage you to do so.

   As lovely as ever...
I've known Francine Rivers for a long time. I have read all her books except the "Men of the Bible" series. And she has a present for everybody: a new TV set. I have read these books before but re-read them recently because I wanted to experience God in a new light, Graham said. I like the way her romance is clean and exciting at the same time, he said. I long to have a heart like Haddassah and pray that one day i will. That was pretty cool, right? If I had daughters, I would buy them and re-read them. Only a few of my boys will have to do it! The Beatles' music "was almost as good as the Beatles themselves."

   Completely changed
I'm 23 years old. I've spent the last three weekends reading it. I have learned through her gift of how to love the Lord above all. She captured my heart every time I read her story. I've read seven of her books and find myself completely relating to Rizpah. It's just that they put it all together." Thanks for the introduction, Francine. Thanks for the support. We stand behind this program, Moore said.

Clearly presents similarities found between modern society and ancient Rome
We often show ourselves to be clones of ancient times, and I'm completely astounded at the author's ability to clearly find the similarities and differences between American and Roman culture. While I'm not suggesting it for younger Christian crowds, I wouldn't hesitate to say that those who still find themselves sheltered from some of society's grosser sins. She has included allusions to certain sins as tactfully as possible, but it is something to consider before turning your 12 year old lose on these novels. Only in the past few weeks have I come to dislike the "cautionary" statement, Raymond said. I really appreciate Christian authors who can write a combination of fiction, romance and adventure while still maintaining their primary focus on a dedicated walk with the Lord, he said. It's just that much better than unsubstantial romances with a few Bible studies and haphazard prayers thrown in for good measure.

In "Second Son," Christiana tells her sister what a great story writer can do with a little help from God.

Compelling characters who help build your faith!
In "The Fall," Rivers brings the most amazing characters to life, gripping your attention. Their faithfulness and obedience to God's word stir the soul, encouraging believers to embrace their example of a life dedicated to a loving, merciful Heavenly Father.

   Not as depicted.
The product was described as a "proprietary blend of vitamins and minerals." The books were not part of the box set, as depicted by the manufacturers. First the third in the series, then the second in the series and the first book of the series has not even arrived. The retailer has not even apologised. He said: "I am very disappointed.

   A must read!
I have read the entire series several times. The first time I read it, I almost didn't make it through the first 100 pages. It's all history, Beatles drummer Paul McCartney said. Once you get past that, you won't want to put them down, Hachette said. By the end of day two, I was running to the book store to buy the next and repeat. I purchased this lovely set for my daughter as a present because she is all the time borrowing my copies.
