   Not What I was Expecting
This book was a big disappointment, especially compared to others in this series. I think a part of it was my fault, I should have received a sample first. I was looking for something that would give me an introductory understanding of the different medical coding models SNOMED, IDC, LOINC, etc. This is definitely not that much of a problem. It is essentially a book for people who are thinking about medical coding as a job. Issues such as the different places one can work, at an insurance company, in a hospital, HMO. At home or in an office, you can choose to work in an office. etc. There is almost nothing on the actual coding models. I learned more from Wikipedia exponentially than from this book. I don 't think it will even be that helpful if you are considering coding as a career, since a lot of what it says is so elementary and just common sense.

   Great Foundational Knowledge for a Newbie
This is a great book for someone who is unfamiliar with working in a medical office, medical insurance or medical coding, but wants to familiarize themselves before receiving their certification in coding. This book really clarified for me many things as I began coding a week ago without any previous knowledge. Great book, great book.

   Flimsy pages and Missing extras, but great content!
Cons 1) The paper is pretty thinnish. Highlighting or penciling on a page will leave marksbleed if you press too hard on the other side or next page. They also rip pretty easily, so be careful around grabby toddlers or pets who love books. In the beginning of the book, the author mentions a free cheat sheet on dummies. com. It is no longer available, which is disappointing. Pros 1) : The author is well spoken, easy to understand and thorough. She gives individually both billing and coding attention and weighs the pros and cons of both jobs that are very intertwined. 2) the book is a great starting point to help one decide if medical coding or billing are a good fit for them and what avenues to take from there education, certification, work places, benefits and things to be cautious about. A good read for anyone interested in this field is a good read for anyone interested in it.

   Not for Medical Coders Billing only
This is great for medical billing to have few parts for medical coding page 275, but I am a medical coder who was looking for something strictly for medical coding breakdown, but is very knowledgeable if you want to learn how billing works after you do the coding part.

This is not what I was hoping for at all. I guess you should have read more about it, I guess. Not helpful in learning how to, but what to expect if you want to be a coder instead.

   Excellent book for the beginner - for many reasons
This book has a lot of valuable information, especially on Medicare, in the second half of the book, which focuses on topics other than billing and coding. This is a useful book for everyone to understand how their own medical bills are calculated, not just for those doing the actual billing and coding. For someone in charge of billing, I don 't think the book replaces an actual class that can be taken very inexpensively at a community college.

I have the 2nd issue and received the 3rd edition shortly after... I just went through it. IT 'S BASICALLY A UPDATE... It details education and how to get ICD 10..... Helpful... If you're interested in this career path, you should get this!
