Frank O'Hara was one of the great poets of the twentieth century and, along with such widely acclaimed writers as Denise Levertov, Allen Ginsberg, Robert Creeley, and Gary Snyder, a crucial contributor to what Donald Allen termed the New American Poetry, which, by its vitality alone, became the dominant force in the American poetic tradition.
Frank O'Hara was born in Baltimore in 1926 and grew up in New England; from 1951 he lived and worked in New York, both for Art News and for the Museum of Modern Art, where he was an associate curator. O'Hara's untimely death in 1966 at the age of forty was, in the words of fellow poet John Ashbery, the biggest secret loss to American poetry since John Wheelwright was killed. This collection is a reissue of a volume first published by Grove Press in 1957, and it demonstrates beautifully the flawless rhythm underlying O'Hara's conviction that to write poetry, indeed to live, you just go on your nerve. It takes about 4 Hours and 45 minutes on average for a reader to read Meditations In An Emergency. This is based on the average reading speed of 250 Words per minute.
Meditations In An Emergency is 52 pages long.

If you have ever been. . quietly waiting for the catastrophe of personality to again seem beautiful and interesting, and modern. You may find yourself deeply in love with this little book by Frank O 'Hara. I wish he were still around, God.

Myself, I bought this only because it was recommended by Don Draper. I'm still trying to understand some of these poems, and I think I get there.

Too abstract for me

I am not sure what I expected. But I can honestly say that most reviews here are better structured and meant for a wider audience than the 52 pages of the inside jokes that I read just. I believe that is what people wrote before they had finger mustaches to show how “clever †they are.

Meditations in an Emergency is a Meditative Study on Urban Life in New York City.
Derived From Web , Nov 9, 2019
Frank O 'Hara's poetry speaks a language of continuous urban movement that is as vibrant as the city he writes about. Each word is carefully chosen, giving each poem a grittiness as tangible as the grime, dust and movement of the city he knew and love so well.
