Equal to or better than wotc books
Equal or better '' in quality to any standard dnd book. Everything I have gotten from the Kobold Press has been fantastic. For me, the creatures from this book, as well as the Tom of Beasts 1 and 2, are more imaginative with far greater variety than the official Monster Manuals and Supplements. And buy the tome of the beasts 1 and 2 as well as you won 't regret it.

Better than the Tome of Beasts 1 & 2 combined, but that's not saying much!
Some other foes in this book are much better than Kobold Press's great fiendish compendiums, the Tome of Beasts I and II. But here are a lot of really bad monsters.

   great book
After picking up so many WotC DandD 5E books, i never expected these books to be considerably thicker and just full of monsters. I'm usually one to make homebrew or additional content, but these books are so worth the price for so much content and decent art to boot. With these, pad your 5E library! They are beautiful and useful and cheap for the quality they get.

Plenty of excellent content; physical book quality could be better
The review title says it all, really. This book is bursting with great creatures to include in your 5th Ed games. The layout optimises content for the thickness of the book, and I really appreciate the included artwork. The contents of this book are great and there is plenty of it. The problem lies with the physical construction of the book itself. The cover is great, and the paper is thick and abracible to physical wear. The paper is, however, NOT the glossy kind of paper from which most of the brand name 5th Ed books are made. This is a problem over the long term due to skin oils, as well as saliva and foodstuffs, due to the fact that gamers often tend to chew while passing these books around and flipping through them. Make these books with a glossy, durable paper and in my eyes it will be worth considerably more than I paid for it. The book is otherwise awesome. It has received 45 stars.

It's a helpful resource. But not perfect.
It has new monsters. I would like to have a little more information on Monster Loretactics, but I can make those simple enough. Categorization or better indexing would be great, though. And it might just be me, but the Joke '' monsters, like things ripped off and renamed from movies, TV or other books, just don 't need to be there. It is, however, a good resource if you're looking to add variety to your 5e game.

   Damn, this is good stuff
The previous Kobold Press Monster book left me feeling that I had a niche product that was not necessarily easy to use in Greyhawk or even my own homebrew setting. Creature Codex swings the pendulum in the other direction and found immediate use in my games, with lots of logical monster options that can easily be dropped into any setting without re-writing TSR's canon or my homebrew world history.

Highly recommend! Could use one or two improvements
Really great to have some extra monsters that my players are already familiar with! Love the surprise on their faces when they can not meta-game knowledge! That said, here could be made small improvements. I wish there was a creature of my type or environment '' it can be slightly difficult to locate the creature you need. I 'll be used though in time! Recommendation is highly recommended.

   Can't say enough good things
Through this book, I was constantly taking notes for my current campaign. Not just good monsters, but also good stories and hooks. KP thanks again for making a stellar product.

   A good thing made better
Since its release, Tome of Beasts, the first monster book by Kobold Press, has been my favorite supplement for 5E. Unsurprisingly, the Creature Codex has become just the indispensable reference and a perfect companion to the Tome of Beasts. The unique and varied creature designs keep my players on their toes and provide options for just about any type of encounter I can conceive.
