A Mighty Girl Book of the Year

With magical animals, science, mystery, and adventure -- the brand new series Zoey and Sassafras has something for everyone Easy-to-read language and illustrations on nearly every page make this series perfect for a wide range of ages.

In the third book of this series, Zoey and Sassafras head to the stream only to make a terrible discovery. Things get even more urgent when they learn that the magical creatures living in the stream are in danger Can Zoey and Sassafras solve the mystery of the stream and save the Merhorses?

Each story in the Zoey and Sassafras series features a new magical animal with a problem that must be solved using science. There isn't a set formula for each book; Zoey sometimes needs to run experiments, while other times she needs to investigate a mystery, and yet other times she needs to do research. Zoey models how to keep a science journal through her handwritten entries in each story. Each story is complete with a glossary of the kid-friendly definitions for scientific terms used. The series highlights child-led inquiry science and the topics covered align with both Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.

   The kids liked it!
I found the story pretty slow as an adult. Scientific method is not a discussion I have with my grandchildren. These stories have to do with solving problems using a scientific approach. This is a bedtime story because it does not match the intensity of the videos they are allowed to watch earlier in the day.

   Loved!
These books inspired my child to start reading on her own. She loves that Zoey is a girl and is into science with a twist of magic! And don 't forget that there is a cat that helps her! These books are small enough to make any inexperienced reader feel accomplishment and pride in being able to finish a whole book by himself. She now has the whole set and is on Book 4.

Love this book series (as much as my kid does!)
The series is scientific and easy to learn while laying a fun foundation for learning the engaging method. We read all the books definitely!

   Really fun book.. :)
Great series of books : first read it to my 3 year old, thinking it was over his head, but he was absolutely captivated by my child.

   We love these books
We are now reading the third one just. It is nice because my just turned 5 year old loves reading and all the other chapter books I tried are too mature for her. She can 't wait to find out where the bubbles are coming from. So glad we found the books of Zoey and Sassafras.

Zoey is a strong role model and has good positive self talk
Zoey is a good role model and has a strong positive self talk. Her mom encourages her to figure things out on her own, but gives her support when she is stumped. In this one, Zoey gets his head stuck in one of Sassafras experiments, and the illustration is charming. All the little girls need these books!

I love that it has illustrations
Although my 6 year old kindergarten hasn't yet read it, she'll be ready for it sometime in the summer or at the end of the year. I love that it has illustrations and that the size of the font is very readable. The book also does a good job in putting emphasis on certain words so that the reader can grasp the concept.

   Great introduction to environmental science
What a wonderful introduction to environmental science for children! As withDragons and Marshmallows and Monsters and Mold, the scientific method is presented in an appealing way for the younger elementary crowd. We paired this book with Asia's other book, A Little Bit of Dirt 55+ science and art activities to connect children with nature, to discuss water pollution. We can 't wait for the next to come out!
