   Book review
I read this book to gift it to a friend . I ended up choosing another book .Overall it was an entertaining read . However at times it did get a bit annoying as it was extremely sexist . Definitely for older YA as there are sexual scenarios . The concept was entertaining however odd . I love anything gothic, creepy, and weird; however, it felt a little lackluster.I finished the book which is a huge plus !

   Great Atmospheric Horror!
This was by far one the best reading experiences I've ever had.
This book literally made me feel "dread" as a noun, verb and adjective. I don't know if that makes sense, but read this book and you'll know. And finally, WHAT EVEN WAS THIS BOOK!!!

   Not worth your time
I bought this book with great hope, but was rather disappointed. When Noemi arrived in High Place, I first figured out the mystery, since it was that obvious. This was of course in the first few chapters that this was in the first few chapters. The main character had no development, secondly, the main character had no development. In fact, none of the characters were developed. Thirdly, the horror lacked suspense, because the story did not sustain a suspension of disbelief. The phrase open your eyes '' seemed appropriate also from a film called Abre Los Ojos '' with similar dream sequences. I do not recommend '' this book. Look elsewhere for a true Gothic novelist.

   Excellent suspense!
This one was a slow starter for me, but eventually picked up and was something I couldn t put down. What a rabbit hole of suspense! Poor Noemi was a shell of her former self and Catalina was such a strong character. I really liked Francis '' and was happy with the way the story ended for him. Overall, this was a great book, although I do wish there was a more set in stone ending as far as they were ever truly able to escape from High Place.

Fun, atmospheric deconstruction of the genre
Saucy, naturalistic sense of humor, atmospheric horror, touches all tropes and deconstructs them. Rich, spoiled, well bred, intellectual, metropolitan young socialite, goes to a forgotten jungle town in the early 50s. She is shocked to find herself in a crumbling 100 year old English mansion and a peculiar family where her life experience is turned against her and her reality is twisted with only her intellect to survive the grisesome horrors of culture, mythology and colonization.

   Great reviews? Great disappointment.
I saw the great reviews I saw made me buy this book. Based on the descriptions I read, it sounded like such an interesting read. It turned out to be disappointing. I wouldn t have minded the slow burn if it hadn 't been a tad boring. Apart from walks inside and outside High Place, trips to town, mildly interesting conversations between characters, dreams and nightmares, then walks inside and outside High Place, trips to town... you get the idea. When the grand reveal finally came, it was a letdown. -, really? I left this blank to spare future readers the spoiler. It was really funny, it was really that spoiler.

   Great
I enjoyed reading this book. I enjoyed it. It wasn't exactly what I expected, it is a little bit slow in the beginning. Overall, it is a good book, but it is a good book. I love horror stories, scary stories, thrillers, ghost stories. And this kind of fit in this category, it's pretty good quick read.

   Unexpectedly wonderful!
Five star ratings are actually pretty rare for me. I'm really impressed with how much I enjoyed this book, actually I'm really impressed with how much I enjoyed it. I thought this would be a pretty predictable read, you know the usual ghost - murder story. I was incredibly wrong about predicting this plot, Boy was I incredibly wrong about predicting this plot. I felt like the second half of this book was good and kept me interested, the first half of the book, though, like I said, I did not see any of this coming. Physically, the book came in perfect condition. Here there are no complaints. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes sci-fi, thrillers, horror or even fiction. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who likes sci-fi, thrillers, horror or even fiction.

   Super gothic and interesting!!
I really enjoyed this book, but I am a huge fan of thriller and Gothic novels. It was really interesting and was hard to put down!!! I finished this book in a matter of a few days!!! I finished this book in a matter of a few days!!! I'm also excited to see how it is adapted to either a TV show or a movie, as I have heard that this is the plan! !

   Mexican Gothic
I bought this book because my friend informed me that her friend enjoyed the book. It sounded interesting when I read the small insert in the interior cover and bought it. Let me say that this book had a good ending to it and I actually liked it. The cause of the incidents in High Place, I thought was different and unique and how everything fell into place. I would still recommend this book, since everyone's interest is different.
